Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

I'm not drawn to the "one of our own" mentality. It seems like it's an important part of the way those in medical research respond to us, and does a lot of harm there. Maybe it's such an inevitable part of the way humans work that it cannot be avoided. If that's the case, I think we're pretty...

Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

Got to admit that I don't get the reference - the top google result was for a horror film, so that doesn't sound good.

UK: Social prescribing on the NHS (and possible implications for ME/CFS services)

Not sure if this systematic review wants a new thread? I've not read up on the details but saw it getting some attention: https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/12/10/e062951 Press release: https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/967865 SMC...

Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

I certainly don't want anyone to be quiet, obedient and subservient. Researchers have been able to spend decades distracting attention from justified concerns about their behaviour by pointing to and exaggerating examples of behaviour from patients that that is not worse than we saw from AIDS...

Norway: Opinion piece on "Facts and myths about ME" by Reme, Flottorp and Wyller

I thought that this was more careful than a lot of their stuff for the first half. IMO, they're learning how to produce better spin, and we need to take them seriously.

Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

Do you not think it has helped powerful people dismiss and stigmatise the patients criticising them? Do you not think that a culture where patients are all good with behaviour like this will make progress more difficult? In-groups of people can feel a sense of loyalty and understanding for...

Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

People misrepresenting the incident, especially to try to smear a wider group of patients, is obviously terrible, but it's also important to recognise that throwing a coffee cup in anger is a bad thing to do and not the way people should behave when challenging researchers, no matter how those...

Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

I've never heard this accusation of throwing a chair before. I've no idea. We've seen how other people have spun legitimate forms of advocacy work as abusive harassment, so it's worth working out exactly what happened and why before making a judgement about it. But regardless of that, and to...

Norway: Article about ME seminar with security

I'm having trouble getting access to that, so thanks for the summary. This is the story that the keep promoting as a strong card. Any patient that isn't very careful with their language can be used to make things worse for us.

Norway - 2 comedy podcasters cause controversy by misrepresenting ME/CFS, October 2022

Vogt got a reply from Sollund: Vogt adds: There were a few silly comments under Vogt's post.

Open Interpersonal relationships, stress and symptoms in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME)

I just had a look at their reply to correspondence. I'm not sure Fitzpatrick has the best understanding of why there is controversy here - but then, I think that we should be examining the moral grounds of approaches to ME/CFS so these authors might be unhappy with me about that.

Thought I'd see if Vogt had anything to say about this, given his connections to them. Facebook's translated version: https://www.facebook.com/HenrikVogtMDPhD/posts/pfbid022JiFPeHLs9uj9FjdvUx614qHbbSnF1VhGyM4GH2hXKfgJBrV1ZXZxmY3eYPTQp7hl

Which comment? I just replied to a post here. I don't know what's happening on twitter right now and wasn't referring to that.

I don't know. It's easy to point to 'reasonable' people whose impression of the complaints of critics of the PACE trial does not reflect what those critics have actually said, and often seems to really just reflect their prejudices. I guess that's commentary too, but I don't like it when it's...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

The picture is part of the tweet, but it doesn't say "So long suckers, you chose the other path!" He doesn't say "if you'd followed his messianic advice/example you too would be diving on a coral reef somewhere". I think that there are problems with some of the things Garner has actually said...

That's not what he said. I've seen people making assumptions about his health that were not supported by what he said. I can see that this would be irritating.
