I can't remember in which thread you mentioned that drug development for autoimmune disorders had gone somewhat astray.. Could you explain what type of drug development you think would be more beneficial? Thanks

Neurophysiology of pain in ME and FM - unpublished study by White and Bourke - CFS research Foundation/AfME

This thread has been split from a thread about a new study: UK: Brighton and Sussex University Hospital and Medical School - Chronic Pain and Fatigue Several years ago CFS research Foundation raised money for a pain study. After Anne Faulkner died, Afme took it over. I havent seen any paper and...

Open UK: Brighton and Sussex University Hospital and Medical School - Chronic Pain and Fatigue

If your fatigue and pain levels are the same which cohort do you choose?! ME research is littered with studies with poorly defined cohorts, and advertising for participants is dubious. If this is the high quality research that the MRC wants to fund, I think they need to brush up on robust trial...

UK CMRC 2018 Conference - Prof Stephen Holgate

What an appalling admission to say they weren't focused on causality ( we all knew that). Imagine that statement being made at a cancer conference.

UK CMRC 2018 Conference - Prof Stephen Holgate

Why did the MRC not fund the UK ME/ CFS biobank? Surely that's high quality research.

Top reasons ME research is an opportunity

Milo's list is a good starting point. I think showing them the breadth of research needed might be useful. The reason I mentioned SMCI awards was to demonstrate to them how quickly results had been obtained ( there will of course be failures) .Prustys research about HHV releasing a mitochondrial...

Top reasons ME research is an opportunity

The SCMI Ramsay research awards for 2016 have already produced results that will be built upon, so there's 4 examples. You could maybe ask UK ME/ CFS biobank for a list of projects that they have supplied samples for.

Livestream Tuller and Hughes 2 Oct 2018 Newry : The PACE Trial: 'One Of The Greatest Scandals

Psychology and journalism departments in both N IRELAND universities were made aware of the event and of Brian Hughes book. Even if they didn't attend, they've heard about it. I suspect being challenged about shoddy research techniques prevalent in psychology might be uncomfortable.

UK CMRC 2018 Conference held September 19 & 20 at Bristol

I think we all felt so frustrated when the government announced £40 million for brain tumor research. Did MRC already have projects in brain research waiting to be funded? I wasn't suggesting giving it to anyone, rather how do you raise awareness among scientists to get them interested?

UK CMRC 2018 Conference held September 19 & 20 at Bristol

Surely if the MRC announced tomorrow that £20 million is available for research on ME ( work out the specifics later) it would alert researchers that there is a long term career opportunity. The money needs to be announced first. Why is Invest in ME plan always ignored? In the US they recently...

NYT: Congratulations. Your Study Went Nowhere. (9/24/2018)

Ron Davis has acknowledged that they will have failures along the way. That's the right way to approach science and acknowledging them openly is educational for other scientists.

David F Marks: Psychology - Science or Delusion?

Look at the number of academic psychologists working at your local university and you will be shocked. They all have to justify their existence with research........ Perhaps if they spent more time in the real world and helped out our grossly overworked social workers, family support workers etc...

The use of monitoring devices such as actometers to measure outcomes in clinical trials. Discussion thread

I think she said that teenagers preferred to use their phone to record activity. How subjective is that? I imagine getting teens to use an actometer might nalso have problems. After all surely they are in control of turning it on? Or is it like an electronic tag??

    Concerns about Cochrane

Do you think that NICE are aware of these problems, as I presume they will rely heavily on Cochrane reviews.? Surely part of the problem is vested self interest because doctors need publications for career advancement. Wessely has authorship of 800 papers but one good paper in a whole career is...

    Article on replication crisis

I think in multiple sclerosis, treatment trials are carried out over 2 years because of the relapsing/ remitting nature . It ought to be the same in psychology. No publication until follow up at least a year after treatment finished.
