Covid19 - Shielding and self-isolating for vulnerable people - policies and issues

I hate to break it to UK members, but the shielding programme has been axed: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/entire-covid-shielding-programme-quietly-axed-for-good-on-day-of-cabinet-reshuffle/ar-AAOvtkd?ocid=ASUDHP&li=BBoPWjQ For some reason I can't copy and paste any of the text into a...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

In the tennis world, it seems to be largely from people who have bet and lost money on the result of the player's match when it didn't turn out as they'd expected - that's my impression.

    Aripiprazole - Abilify

I suspected from the radio silence that things were starting to get less good. Once you've been off the Abilify for quite a while, do let us know how you're feeling "underneath".

The Atlantic: Long Covid is everyone's problem, 2021, Ed Yong

When I click on the link, I get the heading: "Long-Haulers Are Fighting for Their Future" - I guess it's been changed.

    Bleeding heel fissure

It probably is just lack of care for your heels, but probably better to get some professional advice to be sure if it's gone deep enough to bleed. I had what sounds like the same thing a few years ago, and it's difficult to treat, especially if the fissure has gone deep - it took a long time...

I make a point of never believing anything Jenny Harries says: it's served me well so far.

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

I thought this was useful: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2021/08/how-we-live-coronavirus-forever/619783/?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB The Coronavirus Is Here Forever. This Is How We Live With It. We can’t avoid the virus for the rest of our lives, but we can minimize its...

    New Light Aware Card

As soon as LED streetlights were installed along my road, I noticed that even on the less than 5-minute journey home from the station I was starting to get migrainey. It's eased as they've lost their initial brightness, thank heavens, but initially I had to walk along with my eyes half shut :(

UK: New health and disability green paper - comments requested

I found this in my weekly letter from Scope, and thought I needed to share it with others in the UK. Closing date is 11th October 2021. "The health and disability green paper explores how the welfare system can better meet the needs of disabled people and people with health conditions now and...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Could I suggest that this is a sufficiently important subject that it might be worth having its own thread, rather than hiding in a 1000+-post thread? There may already be one in existence, of course. A "what to say when people ask awkward questions about ME"-type thread, perhaps? I can...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Thank you indeed, @Brian Hughes. Just one thing I spotted: "subjectivity" in No. 6 where you mean "subjectively" :)

Article and Documentary BBC: Long Covid: Early findings bring hope for diagnostic tests

For some reason, I can't get past the sign-in on the BBC website. This is despite being permanently signed-in on the BBC, as I found last night when checking the footie score.

    Supportive armchair?

My caree has for the past decade or so been using a rather elderly wooden-framed armchair (upholstered back, removable seat cushion with webbing underneath, and bare wooden arms) - certainly not an "old lady's chair", but not exactly modern-looking, either. It's now a question of whether she...
