Dr Tim Robinson

Dr Robinson studied medicine at The Middlesex Hospital, London University and GP vocational training in Salisbury Hospitals. He became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and was appointed a partner in a rural general practice in 1988; he retired after 30 years, as planned, in 2020.
Throughout his career, Dr Robinson has been interested in optimising the care of his patients by combining conventional medicine with integrative medicine where appropriate. He completed his Master of Science Degree in Nutritional Medicine, with merit in 2014.

He has published research papers, lectured and presented in the UK, Europe, India and Australia.

Dr Robinson fully engages with the annual appraisal process which includes patient and colleague feedback, continuing professional development, quality improvement and probity.
Dr Robinson is now NHS Long Covid GP Clinical lead (SW region) and GP lead for three Long Covid Services.

I watched bits of his fatigue videos. Gosh he's irritating, waving his left hand around, patronising tone, tediously slow getting to the point.

All the usual pacing up and no it's not GET guff. Mentions GET being not advised for ME/CFS any more in NICE guidelines, but describes GET wrongly as increasing every day regardless of symptoms. Says his method of incremental increases is OK because you take a day or two after each increase to see if you've triggered PEM then you can increase again after a few days. If you do trigger 'a bit of a crash', he just says wait a few days after it goes away then do the next increase. He assures us this is won't cause any harm, unlike GET.

Sigh. Why do they keep doing this. He's probably got away with it with a lot of his Long covid patients because they were in the early stages and recovering anyway.

PEM described as malaise which he was very vague about, as though it's just feeling a bit off colour, PESE described as a separate thing of symptoms of the original illness coming back. Makes light of PEM/PESE as a bit of a crash, wait for it to be over and do the next small incremental increase.

Says LC is not the same as ME/CFS partly because there are subgroups of LC that are about organ damage or other specific issues, which is fine. But even people with LC who fit IOM criteria for ME/CFS are not the same as ME/CFS because pwLC have a lot more symptoms than pwME, 200. Rubbish, he hasn't read the next page of the NICE guidelines that list other ME/CFS symptoms. He implies ME/CFS is just the symptoms in the IOM criteria.

I won't be recommending these videos or watching any more of them.

Seems like any doctor can put their hand up to be in charge of Long Covid patients then, accurate knowledge not necessary.

This is an illustration why even services nominally staffed with a doctor are still potentially worse than useless. Calling for specialist clinics or the retention of existing ones is a fraught business.

The only conceivable model of the human body where somebody experiences temporary symptoms after doing more than usual, but are then able to do even more in a few days, is one where the symptoms are caused by a lack of stimuli/conditioning.

So either he’s unable to understand the logic of his own treatments, or he simply doesn’t care that he’s perpetuating the old models of ME/CFS.

It’s inexcusable either way.

According to Google:

Dr Tim Robinson currently serves as the GP Clinical Lead for three NHS Long Covid Services in South West England. The clinics he leads are in the following regions:
  • Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG): This service is run in partnership with Sirona care & health.
  • Dorset: This service operates with the Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Torbay and South Devon: This service is managed by the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Robinson also holds a broader role as the GP Clinical Lead for the NHS England Long Covid service across the entire South West region.
Patients typically require a referral from their GP to access these NHS long covid clinics.

Dr Tim Robinson - Clinical Advisor
Tim is Hope Programme Clinical Advisor and named Clinical Safety Officer at Hope For The Community. He enjoys ancient history, running, anything and everything to do with the sea.
Calling some kind of BPS rehab program 'hope' is so sick. The false hope the psychobehavioural approach sells put me in this bed, and did the same to countless others.

Just had a look and this looks like patronising nonsense to me. With a side of stealth GET no doubt.
