Gadzukes, the abstract needs editing. Punctuation and spacing are bad.

I have just learnt that Gadzukes (or Gad zooks) is an example of a minced oath. I've never heard the phrase "minced oath" before, but I rather like it.

It's from 'God's hooks', referring to the nails driven through Jesus. Pleasanter than the original, I suppose.

Compare with Zounds (God's wounds) or sblood (God's blood).

We are a macabre species, aren't we?

I think we should have a new forum rule that all oaths must be minced in future.

Ash Wednesday has started this week. Glad you reminded me of these phrases once again.

Is that something you take as a breakfast cereal and have forgotten about by lunchtime?
