The use of the labels ME, CFS, ME/CFS

My lawyer pointed out to me that in the "social legal German world" (she is a professional in medical and social law and has specialized on ME, amongst others), including especially judges too, CFS is understood as a psychiatric condition, which can be successfully treated by doing...

    Muscle fatiguability after exertion

Could be sth. else, too, like neuromuscular. (Wasn't there sth. myasthenic-like that behaves like that? And in order to find it it needs a certain EMG that mimics "exercise"? But I think this is also typical in other neuromuscular diseases...) The classical "energy production problem" are...

Pathophysiology of skeletal muscle disturbances in (ME/CFS): 2021, Wirth, Scheibenbogen

I think it can, having the periodic paralyses and e.g. mutations in other ion channels in mind. You can do cellphysiological experiments where you measure ion fluxes etc. This is a bit what you find in periodic paralysis, only that the Na+/K+-ATPase works as it should; in hypocalemic PP certain...

Recommend soft safe earplugs, such as a soft medical grade silicone that immediately returns to its default manufactured shape [edited]

Hi Samuel, I‘m using these: https://www.aponeo.de/03185431-wellnoise-ohrenstopfen-blau.html Wellnoise Silikon I don‘t know if they‘re available in your country. I use them for a longer time; in principle, they‘re washable. You can form them, and They keep their form. They produce very good...

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

I make this experience with every doctor. I always have to make a risk-benefit assessment myself.

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Some people are worried about the safety of the community. Some others don't see a reason for it. And some don't care.

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

I feel like @Jenny TipsforME and some others here about the tone of the discussions. But thanks, @TiredSam, for pointing out that obviously different sides are "unhappy" -this brings understanding with it. So I concur: I wouldn't dare... I've had experiences, too, but indpendently from that, I...

Solve M.E. webinar on 28th May re Whole Genome Sequencing and Analysis of ME/CFS

This is a fascinating talk indeed, and I am very curious and excited about what these researchers will find. The 10 patients were collected from Younger's group "to qualify as unexplained pain and fatigue". I hope they know PEM (or apply CCC/ICC)... They say they are researching ME/CFS/SEID/FM...

    Rituximab and placebo response

I found it in the paper: "One hour before infusions, all patients received premedication with 1 g of oral acetaminophen, 10 mg of cetirizine, and 8 mg of dexamethasone (Supplement 1)." Wow, 8mg dexamethasone is A LOT. I had severe adverse reactions with 2mg, but besides that I felt much better...

    Rituximab and placebo response

Didn't ALL participants get cortisone and antihistamines, too? I may misremember. As indicated here (I don't have access to the phase 3 trial paper itself so can't check there)...

Biomedical articles on MEpedia - purposes and pitfalls

I have to agree with @Alvin. Science is about looking in many, many directions, may they lead to dead ends or not.

Jen Brea: My ME is in remission

What I mean: Normal ranges are not only a problem re. CCI, but in any other disease that is diagnosed via normal ranges, because normal ranges alone are unreliable or maybe even incorrect, at least for a subset of individuals. So saying "being diagnosed with CCI does not necessarily mean that...

Jen Brea: My ME is in remission

But then being diagnosed with anything doesn't necessarily mean something. Where does that take us? And what's medicine's answer to that?

Jen Brea: My ME is in remission

But this is a problem with every normal range. Assuming a Gaussian distribution makes it only slightly better - and while there exist outliers in a Gaussian distribution, for most doctors they don't.

It cost me 0€. The surgery itself - that is expensive.

Jen Brea: My ME is in remission

Yes, it's a common experience for me, too.
