Immunoglobulin signature predicts risk of post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, 2022, Cervia et al

So doesn't look good for those with asthma then...:( Any comments on this study's quality? Interesting in that perhaps a number of pwME have similar factors that have brought about ME post viral episode.

@Arnie Pye I'm with you on the gaslighting theory.

Differences Between Women and Men .. in the Rate of Diagnosed Diseases After a Diagnostic Intervention is Conducted ... , 2022, Rosmalen et al

Interesting about B12. Some pwME are advised to try B12 supplementation or B12 injections. I know some doctors recommend these.

Differences Between Women and Men .. in the Rate of Diagnosed Diseases After a Diagnostic Intervention is Conducted ... , 2022, Rosmalen et al

More than 30 years ago, someone I know was exhausted all the time. They were advised their hemoglobin was good, so their iron level was good. Turns out their ferritin was very low - in the single digits. Fast forward 30 years, and doctors are still just testing hemoglobin etc., and not...

The Gut Microbiome in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), 2022, Scheibenbogen et al

Some pwME say probiotics help. Of course there are many types and quality varies. IME, these are not permanent fixes, nor even long-term ones, as the modest effects wear off pretty much daily. But at least it's something for some pwME. There is a CBC TV program about autism that discusses...

Experiences of living with long COVID and of accessing healthcare services: a qualitative systematic review, 2022, Macpherson et al

Some government regulations state people who seek LC care must have had a positive PCR test. With Omicron, testing has been overwhelmed. Rules have changed as to who gets tested. Many with COVID may never get the required PCR test. That's of course a problem when it comes to qualifying for LC...

    Psychology today: Post-Infection Illness

Thank you @chrisb. This is interesting. And is an example of how very long it takes for medical science to overcome beliefs that the fault lies entirely with some patients when they become ill. I think it is sad that neurasthenia patients haven't been "cleared of the charges" they were...

    Psychology today: Post-Infection Illness

Good article which will as @strategist says reach some who don't know about this issue. Interesting, that even mild COVID symptoms can lead to Long COVID which turns one's health and life upside down. That's how EBV was for me: not dramatic, not horrible, but left me with debilitating ME for...

Complaints from patients with [FND]s: a cross-sectional UK survey of why patients complain and the effect on the clinicians..., 2018, Bolton

Thanks for pointing this out @Andy. I am certain, as you say, this will indeed happen. It will be an easy work around for a number of physicians who don't agree with the new NICE guidelines. Same goes for Canada. Last I looked, we don't seem to have our own national ME guidelines. Physicians...

Complaints from patients with [FND]s: a cross-sectional UK survey of why patients complain and the effect on the clinicians..., 2018, Bolton

FND is just a " fancy" term for crazy. If pwME were treated with dignity and fairness by the medical system, medicine would see many in our community do not have MUS or FND. Brain imaging might show a number in our community have hypoperfusion. And, perhaps other issues would be found...

Psychogenic Pseudosyncope: Real or Imaginary? Results from a Case-Control Study in (ME/CFS) Patients, 2022, Visser

Hi @Andy Thanks very much. Interesting the researchers found such a number of pwME who don't have syncopal spells as they term it. My understanding is a very significant number of us have this. Nonetheless, it will be good to see this study replicated.

Psychogenic Pseudosyncope: Real or Imaginary? Results from a Case-Control Study in (ME/CFS) Patients, 2022, Visser

Thank you to these researchers for this study. However, I couldn't find the case definition they used. It makes me wonder which definition they used, as they found 30 pwME who do not have syncopal spells. It is frustrating that there seem to not have been enough studies to convince a...

Poll: Does taking supplements to 'support' mitochondria at a particular time of day improve your sleep?

Yes, ubiquinol helps with energy. Interesting melatonin is an antioxidant. I think I'll look it up again. ME memory and all that...

Poll: Does taking supplements to 'support' mitochondria at a particular time of day improve your sleep?

I have taken uniquinol, a more bioavailable form of Co Q10. I don't find it has ever helped my sleep. I take sublingual melatonin at bedtime. That helps, but I don't think melatonin is considered as mitochondrial support.

Medscape: Fast Five Quiz: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis)

Great to see this quiz! I got question #5 wrong. Other than dyspnea in question 1, it was difficult to choose between Myalgia and unrefreshing sleep. Although I know the IOM cited unrefreshing sleep as one of the main symptoms. And, I think it's more frequently the case pwME experience...

Orthostatic Symptoms and Reductions in Cerebral Blood Flow in Long-Haul COVID-19 Patients: Similarities with ME/CFS, 2021, Rowe et al

Good to answer to the BPS argument that OI is caused by deconditiong, by noting LC participants were highly active before LC. That's what many pwME have been saying for decades about our own disease. Thank you very much to these researchers.

Patients with (ME/CFS) Greatly Improved Fatigue Symptoms When Treated with Oxygen-Ozone Autohemotherapy 2021, Tirelli et al

Interesting, but didn't see a case definition in the criteria. If the inclusion criteria was only fatigue as the "major and most outstanding symptom", and not PEM and other highlighted symptoms, such as OI and cognitive difficulty, then it's unclear as to whether this research was actually...
