'Shaking and trembling with ME/CFS' - Chronically Hopeful

I got shaky - sometimes visibly and sometimes internally - when my cortisol was high. Taking adaptogens that reduced my cortisol helped a lot.

    MUST Fight MUS

It gets hinted at here : https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/ovarian-cyst/treatment/ The policy of "watchful waiting" goes on for years in many cases. But I have to admit my evidence is mainly anecdotal from forums where there are lots of women.

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Yippee! That works! I was clicking on their names, and the result was uninformative to say the least. Thank you!

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Ah - if that's the case then I have to sign up to twitter to read them. And I don't want to do that. But having said that, I have managed to read long threads on Twitter before. I don't know what the difference was on those occasions.

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Slightly off-topic, but I don't understand twitter. I see people posting tweets between SW and Godwin, Anil van der zee and Godwin, and other snippets. But I look at SW's twitter page and I can't find the thread of tweets and replies, ditto with Godwin's page, and also Anil's twitter, and I...

Clinical Trial Participants’ Views of the Risks and Benefits of Data Sharing, Mello et al, 2018

I find it ironic that people worry about data confidentiality for research participants when, in the UK at least, we don't have real confidentiality of medical records at all. The government has given itself permission to ignore your wishes whenever it feels like it...

ACTIB trial (Assessing Cognitive behavioural Therapy in Irritable Bowel): a multicentre randomised controlled trial, 2015, Chalder et al

IBS - yet another medical condition that the medical profession can't (be bothered to) find real reasons for, so blame the patients' mental health. It is also a really good diagnosis for any doctor with any patient with a pain vaguely in the gut region. I'm sure it reduces the work load...

Suggestions on best tests for checking gut health

I take probiotics. I try to stick to good quality ones and vary the brand I take, just to get some variety. I've never understood the logic of pulse-dosing antibiotics. I would have thought it just increases the risk of the bad bugs becoming resistant.

Suggestions on best tests for checking gut health

I've been given about 4 courses of erythromycin. My doctor won't prescribe more than the minimum dose described in the British National Formulary (a total of 1g per day in divided doses). I've done some comparison with the drugs.com site (which is US-based) and the lowest dose in the US for...

Suggestions on best tests for checking gut health

@alicec Thank you for all that information. I'll follow up the links you've given. One thing I'm concerned about with any test is that I should understand the results I'm going to be provided with. I have looked at sample reports for some stool tests and haven't understood them very well. Or...

Suggestions on best tests for checking gut health

A GI consultant I was seeing came to the same conclusion and prescribed a different prokinetic drug after the erythromycin was so successful. It was a dopamine antagonist. Everybody was telling me there was nothing wrong

@Alvin My beliefs, thoughts and feelings about doctors have developed as a result of the treatment I've received personally. I have realised a few times that I will never see eye to eye on the subject of doctors with people who are happy with their treatment.

Everybody was telling me there was nothing wrong

Personally, I think the health service and the medical profession are being manoeuvred into a way of working and thinking that achieves several aims : 1) Lowering people's expectations. 2) Treating symptoms only, rather than properly investigating - it saves money. A headache, for example, can...
