SequenceME genetic study - from Oxford Nanopore Technologies, the University of Edinburgh and Action for ME

Yes, it is only a start but from what I hear negotiations about further stages are in progress. The great thing for me is the focus - they know exactly what they want to do and why.

An Open Letter to BACME re ME/CFS Guide to Therapy 2025

I think he emphasised the fact that many don't get better.

An Open Letter to BACME re ME/CFS Guide to Therapy 2025

The Oxford English Dictionary defines rehabilitation as: The action of restoring someone to health or normal life through training and therapy after imprisonment, addiction, or illness. It also generally refers to the process of restoring a person, object, or area to a former good condition...

Preprint Development and psychometric evaluation of The Index of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Symptoms TIMES Part I…, 2026, Horton, Tyson, Fleming, Gladwell

I would also imagine that for most people being faced with a set of questions like this would induce both misery and horror at the implication that there are another 55 symptoms of their illness that they will have tomorrow even if they have not had them so far. In a medical history taking you...

Preprint Development and psychometric evaluation of The Index of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Symptoms TIMES Part I…, 2026, Horton, Tyson, Fleming, Gladwell

I was wondering where that was. I had a look. It made me realise that none of the authors of this questionnaire are medical. It shows. Half of the symptoms are not even recognised features of ME/CFS. The whole thing, with the questions just about frequency and the psudo-arithmetic, is complete...

    Miscellaneous Research Thread

And it is worth remembering that these leaks are common. There are at least 100 documented leaks of major pathogens and as Google AI points out, there are major pressures to conceal them. When my mother worked at the UK Central Public Health Lab I regularly heard of leaks. She came home infected...

Distinguishing between the COVID-19 pandemic and influenza pandemics (A/H1N1, A/H2N2, A/H3N2): a narrative review, 2026, Daodu et al.

No it is the evidence everyone is aware of, including the guy who wrote a novel predicting what would happen in Wuhan. There are all sorts of ways of being blinkered. What is not in doubt is the culpability of US and UK and probably other Western governments in supporting experiments in China...

Preprint A Proposed Mechanism for ME/CFS Invoking Macrophage Fc-gamma-RI and Interferon Gamma, 2025, Edwards, Cambridge and Cliff

So it seems that IFN gamma can hang around on macrophage surfaces after the party is over. I wonder whether this could also apply to dorsal root ganglion neurons.

United Kingdom: News from BACME - British Association of Clinicians in ME/CFS

I sense a big difference here though. These sessions are not intended to be critical or analytical. They are intended to support practice, through reflections. The antithesis of good ongoing educational practice.

Distinguishing between the COVID-19 pandemic and influenza pandemics (A/H1N1, A/H2N2, A/H3N2): a narrative review, 2026, Daodu et al.

The circumstantial evidence I have seen is at least good as a 'pretty good run down' from some virologists with a vested interest in would say. And the US authorities came to the conclusion it was likely an escape.

Mucosal vaccination in mice provides protection from diverse respiratory threats, 2026, Zhang et al

Indeed. Do we want to feel groggy from an adjuvant we have to have every three months all our lives? And it isn't a vaccine, anyway.

    Genetics: Chromosome 11 SOX6

We are talking about a gene that contributes to neurodevelopment - but that by no means it just does that. And the argument about early manifestation in a sense applies to all genes (and misleadingly) since they are all used since birth (pretty much). Fair skin genes give you fair skin at birth...

But funders do not normally get their names on what they fund. Funders do not fund their own people. There is a conflict of interest surely?

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Yes, but these are just symptoms and signs that physios imagine are due to CCI. They do not appear in any medical account of how to diagnose CCI, which is based on pain, neurological symptoms and signs and flexion x-rays.

An Open Letter to BACME re ME/CFS Guide to Therapy 2025

Absolutely, but it appears nowhere in the definition of the illness and has no great impact, at least for now, on our understanding of the illness or its management. ME/CFS occurs with no history of infection and as infection seems to be a very non-specific trigger. So, calling ME/CFS a...
