The document provides the option of listening to the essay which I have just done.
The writer explains with examples that neuroplasticity is a real phenomenon of the brain adapting connections between neurons as the person practices new learning. It's particularly relevant clinically to stroke...
Thank you, that helps. I like reading physiology where I only have a limited understanding of the detail but can get a glimpse of what is being talked about, and looking stuff up to try to make it clearer. It's like trying to solve a mystery. I can fantasise about being a medical researcher as I...
Given that 'the populous' are generally no more likely to understand what pwME need than the politicians, I don't think a public vote would make any difference for ME/CFS.
We have seen what a pigs ear the government's ME/CFS consultation led to - even worse than the NICE guidelines, we seem to...
Fools rush in. I have little idea about this subject but am having a go at reading. I'm needing to look stuff up.

Interesting to see how she came to be doing this research. Some of the article is OK, but again there are parts I think are misleading or unhelpful:
Again the focus on fatigue as 'more than tired'. I'm not tired or even fatigued, I'm ill. Again no mention of PEM.
Again, the idea that we need...
I seem to have missed this publication when it was first posted here. I have now read the whole article. Setting aside my discomfort of using sick people's tweets as source material for research without their permission, the article is sort of OK, though it says nothing new that hasn't been said...
Hardly surprising to have that author list given that the journal is based in India and says:
"The journal promotes the primary care research activities of the WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors) South Asia Region members."

Yes, I've been saying for ages that the switch from convalescence to rehabilitation for people post infection was a major misstep we are all paying for. I think it happened in the 1980's. Before that my observation was that if you felt ill you were taken seriously and advised to rest as much as...

That's fascinating, @darrellpf. I'd like to understand more of what you found out. I wonder whether you could write up the details of what you found as a case study and get it published. It's possible there may be clues in your genetics and treatment that could move ME/CFS research forward and...
Thanks Binkie. The bit about fitting under the recliner wouldn't be a problem as the legs don't have a section that goes under the bed. It just has vertical legs with wheels on each side of the bed.
Over the bed tables are big and heavy. Mine moves quite smoothly usually on hard flooring but it still requires significant effort. I don't know whether it would be harder to meve on carpet. It is on caster wheels which sometimes bump against the side of the divan bed and turn their brakes on...
I think if you want to actually count steps accurately for a clinical trial you need an ankle worn monitor, or better still, both ankle and wrist so arm movements can be estimated. I would only consider consistent changes of long term averages of over about 50% or 2000 steps clinically...
Judging by the outcome measures and dropout rates, the whole 'treatment' part of the program looks like an enormous waste of money. Patients would have been as well or better off getting diagnosis, meds for symptoms where possible and general management advice which could all be done in a single...
Could you use the over the bed table with your recliner? I had thought of getting a recliner, but want to be able to use my laptop on a table over it.
I use 2 sloping cushions about 10 degrees each to make it about 20 degrees slope. And a normal sized pillow for my head on top of it.
Mine has a central section that I can slope up at the back and a slight ridge at the front, so I can angle my laptop if I want to. I tried that for a while but decided it worked better for me with the table flat.
I use a mouse which I put on the bed beside me on a mouse mat, so I if I'm using...
Yes, I have one. It's not exactly the same as the pictured one. Mine doesn't seem to be available on Amazon now.
I use it every day. I wheel it to the side of the bedroom at night and back again when I want to use my laptop during the day for internet, forum and watching TV. I have a sloping...
