A general thread on the PACE trial!

I found the following via Wayback Machine, which may be the thing @Adam pwme is looking for: https://web.archive.org/web/20040805094145/http://www.meassociation.org.uk/fcampaign.htm

United Kingdom: News from BACME - British Association of Clinicians in ME/CFS

It may happen eventually. If any of the current promising-looking research works out, presumably the normal process begins: replication > drug trials > larger treatment trials > rollout. At this point it would probably be integrated into mainstream NHS services. If an existing specialism or...

Remarkable researchers hunting for ‘something in the blood’ of people with ME

Thanks, @chillier, it's so cheering to know the work's being done by a member of S4ME as well—I'd no idea!

Remarkable researchers hunting for ‘something in the blood’ of people with ME

It worked earlier but weirdly doesn't seem to now. The one further down the page does—I'm not sure whether me quoting it below will do something to it, but the link as it appears in @Simon M's first post works.

Remarkable researchers hunting for ‘something in the blood’ of people with ME

Thanks for that, @Simon M, it does sound as if they've a good chance of picking it up if it's there to be found.

Remarkable researchers hunting for ‘something in the blood’ of people with ME

If they can show something that looks convincing, they might have a good chance of getting more funding anyway. Part of the problem with accessing larger grants seems to be that there isn't a strong enough case to be made—our evidence base is really patchy. A small study with a standout result...

What are the necessary conditions and criteria for a theoretical model of ME/CFS?

But that is the experience for some of us. Maybe quite a lot of us. It's not that we rashly carry on beyond our capacity, because we need someone in a clinic to put us through a course—we can feel as if we have the capacity when we don't.

Once (if) we find a biomarker, how will things evolve?

I'm not sure we will find a single biomarker. It seems more likely it'll be indications of pathology, which aren't necessarily consistent across patients with similar symptoms. But it's a really interesting question all the same. Replication of any results might be needed in different cohorts...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

If they hadn't scrapped the disability employment scheme in the first place, they wouldn't need to reinvent it. I know several former miners and steelworkers who benefitted from the old scheme following injuries or redundancies. Slightly implausibly, given their broad accents and...

    Feeling insecure about romantic relationships

Another thing about conversation, @Hoopoe, is that everyone I've ever been close friends with talks a lot. I mean a lot. It was never deliberate and it took me a long time to even notice it, but in part the friendships work well because I'm not naturally garrulous. I'm happy to be the quieter...

The People's Pharmacy: Mending Mistrust–Can We Rebuild Faith in Medicine?

AND pensions! I've been on sodding ESA for six years longer than I would have if they hadn't changed the rules, kept quiet about it, and then accelerated them even more so that we faced a cliff edge as well as short notice. I'll be better off when the pension does finally arrive, because I...

    Feeling insecure about romantic relationships

That sounds good, @Hoopoe! As soon as you find people you click with, it'll be irrelevant. A lot of conversations between friends are more or less content-free, just chitchat, wind-ups, anecdotes, etc. People's lives often are surprisingly boring, not least because a lot of what they could...

The People's Pharmacy: Mending Mistrust–Can We Rebuild Faith in Medicine?

I'm in my mid-60s and have no family apart from a sibling who lives miles away, so I dare say I'll find out soon!

The People's Pharmacy: Mending Mistrust–Can We Rebuild Faith in Medicine?

Applies to inpatients too. When my older relatives were in hospital, family members often had to get things for, assist, and even advocate for elderly people who didn't have any visitors. I remember one elderly lady who'd been given incontinence pads but wanted to use the toilet, and all she...

Mitodicure GmbH - Research into ME/CFS treatments

Oh, that's interesting. So the "novel oral therapeutic being developed" and "ready for GLP toxicity and GLP safety pharmacology studies" might be a new formulation or combination of existing drugs?

The People's Pharmacy: Mending Mistrust–Can We Rebuild Faith in Medicine?

I find it interesting that at least some GPs treat elderly patients very differently. They feel that as the named doctor, they should see the patient regularly and where possible make the home visits themselves, because familiarity and continuity of care is so important in this group. I didn't...

What are the necessary conditions and criteria for a theoretical model of ME/CFS?

I'm losing track a bit, so I've started a list of some of the things that have been highlighted for the shortlist of factors to be accounted for. Not all of them will be necessary or even a priority, I've probably missed off blindingly obvious stuff, and the wording is clumsy (still in PEM)...

    An Update of a Theory

The flaky ladies in my family said it resolved in pregnancy, and after each child it was less severe when it returned. I only saw my mam with a rash on exposed skin once. By the time I was old enough to notice she only usually got it in her ears and belly button, and with her sister (who'd had...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

Unless he's after some nice sinecure that will give him influence and position in retirement, but he has to be seen to toe a party line first. You could be right about there being no particular motive, though, specially if he genuinely believes his recovery was down to the, erm, 'treatment'.
