From Software to Hardware: A Case Series of Functional Neurological Symptoms and Cerebrovascular Disease 2024 Coebergh, Edwards et al

I am sure the explanation for that omission from their considerations is entirely innocent. A brief functional glitch in their software, no doubt.

Harnessing Placebo Effects for the Treatment of Functional Cognitive Disorder: A Feasibility Pilot Study 2024 Burke, Perez et al

Yeah, I want to know this too. What exactly have they achieved by this methodological sleight-of-hand? Was the patient's life improved in any practical meaningful way?

From Software to Hardware: A Case Series of Functional Neurological Symptoms and Cerebrovascular Disease 2024 Coebergh, Edwards et al

Yep. Software-hardware is not wetware (biology). Not even close. One of the most inappropriate analogies I have ever seen. –––––– "We may at some stage need to build in an understanding of these structural changes into our models and the way we explain FND. But at the moment we simply don’t...

    Who is Simon Wessely?

Wessely & Co – the psychosomatic club – are among the most protected of all human species I have ever seen. Even the highest levels of medical scientific authority the world over appear to have no real control over them. They have become a law entirely unto themselves. They have not only...

Neuroimaging in Functional Neurological Disorder: State of the Field and Research Agenda, 2021, Perez, Carson, Edwards, Hallet, Stone et al

They want to append that diagnosis to literally every other diagnostic category. That is why the BPS club have been pushing the whole 'transdiagnostic' thing so hard, for years. It is one of Chalder's favourite themes, IIRC. Yes, Mr Patient, you have terminal bowel cancer, and less than three...

Lived Experiences of Cognitive Dysfunction in Fibromyalgia: How Patients Discuss Their Experiences and Suggestions for Patient Education 2024 Millar+

cognitive deconditioning So why doesn't cognitive function in ME improve with use, but instead get worse (particularly if sufficient recovery time is not allowed)?

    Bowel prep

I had a colonoscopy in December, and followed the bowel clearing protocol to the letter. All I got for my troubles was an "average" for preparation.

Clinical effectiveness of an online group physical & mental health rehab programme for post-covid-19 condition REGAIN study, 2024, McGregor+

Nor more irrelevant to patients' real lives. Not reporting effect size is always a red flag for me. Reporting it should be compulsory. Ditto for scatter plots.

Passive heat therapy: A promising preventive measure for people at risk of adverse health outcomes during heat extremes, 2024, Patrick Rodrigues

Having been born, raised, and lived my life in the steamy monsoon tropics, I can tell you that the answer is already known, and easy. Do nothing, in air-conditioning. :p

ME/CFS Medical Education Campaign UK - UK website and blog by Katie Johnstone

BACME, whatever they are, are not our friends. They should be disbanded.

Clinical effectiveness of an online group physical & mental health rehab programme for post-covid-19 condition REGAIN study, 2024, McGregor+

And the practical value of this on stamina, physical capacity, employment, welfare use, etc, is...? The most significant thing about this study is that it avoided any serious measures of these, or any measures at all. Why do the approval and funding bodies allow it?

A Life Hidden - Blog posts by Naomi Whittingham

I am still masking up almost every time I leave the house. No plans to stop doing it any time soon. Certainly not before we get vaccines that are much more effective at blocking transmission.

    Earseeds, Acuseeds

Good article. Recovery stories are a common comorbidity of any intractable illness. Good line. ME/cfs and Long Covid are similar enough in their aetiology that, recently, research has actually accelerated. More has happened in the last two years that I have been sick than in the six that...

Studies looking at PEM - have they measured PEM or just the response to the challenge used?

I think Wessely's first degree was in art history too. This. Both the 'poisoned' feeling, and the deep immediate recognition that something was very seriously fundamentally wrong, all happened on the first day I was sick, and has never gone away.

Health inequities and societal costs for patients with fibromyalgia and their spouses: a Danish cohort study 2024 Amris et al

Some have built glorious careers and empires and status and awards cabinets from it. Not to mention well above average incomes. Which is why they can't let it go.

    Best chopping tool/food prep gadget?

Now why isn't this kind of practical advice on official health websites? :grumpy: ––––– Some combination of sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, potato, green bean, something green and leafy, and definitely sweet corn kernel, with a stock cube added, all mashed together. Yum. :) Pureeing does have...
