OMF/Ron Davis Research Update December 2017

Whether it's an allergic/toxic reaction to something or more akin to a wild blood sugar level excursion is an interesting question. It may have been misleading for me to have used the word "analphylactic reaction" above, as I think the same symptoms might be produced by a lot of adrenalin...

OMF/Ron Davis Research Update December 2017

I had a couple, possibly three, glucose tolerance tests early in the illness (nearly 35 years ago). I would get symptoms of low blood sugar (like shakiness) followed by symptoms of an adrenal response (pounding heart). Theses tests, however, were always within normal limits. When I told the...

Jennifer Brea interviewed on Dr Oz Show December 18, 2017

This is at least the third time that "Dr. Oz" has done a feature on ME/CFS. I know he did one in the wake of the XMRV paper; more recently he interviewed Dr. Lipkin about Columbia's cytokine study, and now this segment with Jennifer Brea. It seems as though someone on the "Dr. Oz" staff is at...

Presentation on CDC research program from 1999 to CFSCC

I've related this elsewhere, but hemochromatosis was something my family doctor mentioned when I saw him 2 days after my onset in the early 1980's. I guess my symptoms and my Scandinavian ancestry were suggestive enough of hemochromatosis that he wanted to check this out. [The disease seems to...

CDC gets list of forbidden words

Yes, I'm sure that the proponents of LP are gratified that they can now claim that its use in children is "science- and evidenced-based" in the wake of the SMILE trial. I'm also pretty certain that the CDC once regarded its CBT and GET recommendations to have been "science/evidence based" as...

    Huntington’s breakthrough may stop disease

I wondered about this. I also wonder how often the drug has to be administered. I think it has to be injected into the spine and there might be issues with doing that repeatedly. Still, these concerns no doubt pale compared to the consequences of the untreated disease.

    'Unrest' Film on PBS Soon

The trailer is at the PBS Independent Lens website. http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/watch-video/ It appears that at least some full films can be viewed on this website, but I have no idea if that will be the case with "Unrest."

Is there such a thing as mild orthostatic intolerance?

Yeah, I was thinking about how so many people with ME/CFS have reported fainting during a tilt table test. On the other hand I don't know how many people with ME/CFS actually faint just from standing for a long period. There may be some mechanism that is be able to hold off fainting while...

Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD): a common, characteristic and treatable cause of chronic dizziness (2017) Popkirov, Staab, Stone

I don't know if it is related to this paper, but in this 2014 paper doctors at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York, apparently found a remarkably effective treatment for a type of "bobbing" dizziness known as Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS). This is a type of dizziness that some people...

Is there such a thing as mild orthostatic intolerance?

Now that you mention it, I think the comparison to "holding one's breath" is really interesting. It's one of the few circumstances I can think of where the body sends desperate signals for you to take a voluntary action. That's what standing with the illness feels like - like getting...

Are there symptoms you had in the early stages of ME that you no longer get?

Yeah, night sweats were something that I only experienced in the first 2 or 3 months after onset. I also had no appetite, which led to a loss of about 1/8 of my body weight in a couple of months before it stabilized. I also went through a period of really bad migraine headaches in the first year...

Mady Hornig interview from ME conference in Oslo - November 2017

At around 21:50 she briefly mentions looking into the "blood metabolites" that are being created by the bacteria in the microbiome (or which are being produced by the body in response to the constituents of the microbiome). I have wondered if there could be some bacteria or yeast in the...
