First test for long Covid gets EU approval, August 2022 - IncellDx incellKINE Long COVID test

Thanks to Robert I note that the Times piece includes: I am told my immune profile is exactly that of the “pure” long Covid group, with the three elevated cytokines they would expect. I’m surprised to hear this since I’ve been feeling much better for quite some time. Well that was a surprise...

First test for long Covid gets EU approval, August 2022 - IncellDx incellKINE Long COVID test

The Times piece is paywalled for me. I think she maybe switched my comments around to make them sound different. But I never saw the proof.

UK: University College London hospitals (NHS)

It used to be run by Saul Berkovitz who is a nice conscientious guy but I think the department as a whole had a fairly 'multidisciplinary' feel. It used to be the Homeopathic Hospital and some things didn't seem to change that much. Saul is quite likely still there and is a fully trained...

Passive transfer of fibromyalgia symptoms from patients to mice, 2021, Goebel et al

An awful lot of questions? I would need a whole immunology textbook and the ones out there don't always make the simple things clear. Antibodies bind antigen and can simply block its function without generating any inflammation. To generate inflammation antibodies need to bind either complement...

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

Perhaps I should also mention that I have first hand experience of hypnotherapy. As a medical student I was asked if I would like my own hypnotherapy patients. I said yes. At the first session I realised that I was expected to 'do hypnotherapy' without a word of training. I tried to find out...

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

Actually not. It is my own experience and my experience of the behaviour of trainees and therapists. I was involved in clinical trials for thirty years. I have talked to scores of people who have designed trials, including grilling people as an ethics committee member. People quite often admit...

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

The proof is there in the literature for anyone to see. Repeatedly, badly done trials have shown benefit and carefully done trials have shown it is not there. It is called evidence. I refer you to my previous post.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

You are doing a pretty good job of persuading everyone on the forum that you are not familiar with scientific argument, @Ipquise. A ball throwing experiment tells us nothing about hypnotherapy. The reality is that if hypnotherapy really worked decent trials would have shown that long ago. People...

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

No, it is the next bit that matters, as pretty much everyone in this forum has come to understand. Results from one small study (40 participants) detected a statistically significant benefit of hypnotherapy compared to no intervention (RR 19.00, 95% CI 1.18 to 305.88), but this evidence was...

Earache / strange smell / tinnitus

It is not my job to say but I think it may be unhelpful for non-medical members to give opinions about this sort of thing that might lull people into a sense that they might get better with vitamins or something. The basic rule is always exclude infection first. Infectio0n can cause permanent...

Earache / strange smell / tinnitus

As Trish says, it sounds as if you need to get it sorted out medically, not through advice here. As a physician the combination of a bad smell and earache sounds like the possibility of sinus infection with otitis media. That needs more than just a nasal spray, which I rather susp[ect to be...

Lightning Process study in Norway - Given Ethics Approval February 2022

It seemed to be the main meme with all that lot - White etc. until Alem's success when they went a bit quieter.

Nay, this is the pot calling the Royal Windsor dinner service black.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

I am afraid to say that the vast majority of research these days is pseudoscience. And I don't think hypnosis has any particular similarity to meditation.

I would be happy to give each patient a handout and put a poster in the clinic waiting area.

Autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) in 2023 2023 Tervaert et al

I doubt anyone but Shoenfeld actually believes in this. And he is the editor, I think, of the journal he has published in.

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

I am afraid this is a complete misconception. Nothing new was discovered about the relation of earth to sun by space flight. I am not sure where you got that idea from. Copernicus's contribution was to say that if we consider the motion of sun and earth taking sun as centre then the...

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

Sorry but it's completely wrong. This is nothing to do with not fitting previous theories. It is that psychological theories are too vague to be properly testable and most of the time contradict themselves anyway. Copernicus and Galileo had precise tests and results. Maybe read Karl Popper, who...

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy (also Rapid Transformational Therapy)

How could anyone know any of that if we know little about the subconscious mind? Aren't these just the myths surrounding hypnotherapy? Theories like this are not reliably testable so should have no place in clinical medicine. Something we have been trying to drum into the skulls of the BPS...

I don't know the rules about this but am tempted to assume there are none and that the DecodeME team could contact directly, indirectly or however anyone can think of. I don't really see any conflict of interest in just asking organisations with communication systems to help spread the word...
