    Chills and feeling cold

I get hot when I'm in PEM (after exercise years ago). I've never had chills. But I do have low body temperature (95.6) for 2 days after PEM starts. It's weird. Menopause is hot and then very chilled, or chilled without ever getting hot.

Frequent IgG subclass and mannose binding lectin deficiency in patients with CFS, 2015, Guenther, Scheibenbogen et al

Yes the experiences are similar. I usually have to wait a few days to know the differences between flares and actual reactivation of viruses. Flares last a few days in my case, reactivations of viruses can last for well over a year and includes some bizarre symptoms.

Misrepresentation of ME/CFS in Media Images: A Picture Tells a 1,000 Words. What Story Are We Telling?, 2021, McMillan et al [and 2022 update]

I witness the shocking transformation of my face and posture when I'm at the hair salon. I'm sitting in front of the mirror from beginning to end talking. I'm looking at a different person after an hour. I wonder if he notices?

Is there a box where you can describe the nature of your disability? Can you attach a written letter describing it?

Hypothesis The Enterovirus Theory of Disease Etiology in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Critical Review, Hanson et al (2021)

I believe Dr. Chia found enterovirus in an autopsied brain donated from an ME patient. It was never detected in the patients blood or stomach tissues.

Complement activation in a model of chronic fatigue syndrome, 2003, Sorensen et al

I was going to write something until I realized that I misread "Mean symptom scores were significantly increased after exercise through the use of daily diary" for dairy. Never mind.

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I had my first Pfizer end of June and second jab end of July. I have been experiencing a vestibular virus for almost 2 years and been quite sick with it. The day of my jabs I had fever blisters and swollen glands. I didn't have any negative reaction to both jabs, only a sore arm for...

OPTN is a host intrinsic restriction factor against neuroinvasive HSV-1 infection, 2021, Joshua Ames

Abstract Fast-replicating neurotropic herpesviruses exemplified by herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) naturally infect the central nervous system (CNS). However, most individuals intrinsically suppress the virus during a primary infection and preclude it from significantly damaging the CNS...

Agree with you about supporting someone who supports you. I was thinking of my narc sister who went on and on about her flu after we hadn't seen each other for 20 years and expected me to make her breakfast.

PEM discussion thread - post-exertional malaise

I don't know if I experienced orthostatic impairment during my earlier years of PEM. I certainly didn't have any issues being upright or distressing symptoms of OI back then. I developed OI after a relapse from taking immune modulators in 2002 that reactivated both HHV6 and EBV. It...

PEM discussion thread - post-exertional malaise

I was a marathon runner and continued to run after I had ME. I became ill in 1991, and PEM wasn't even a term back then, delayed PEM was the most bizarre thing I ever experienced. I would recover a few days after exercise and felt I was back to 'normal', but over the next couple of...

Hey Phil, Nice to see you here and sharing your recovery, and congrats on your improvement. Did you experience delayed PEM? What I would describe as immediate PEM would always involve either environment(allergies) or immunological issues (viral) My PEM has always been delayed...

I would love it if Phil joined in our thread here. I also improved earlier on in the illness and was able to do more, but I hit a wall 18 years ago and can not increase anymore. If I stay within my 'energy boundary' I won't experience PEM. It would be interesting to know why Phil...
