So 250,000 people in the UK with "chronic fatigue". Interesting that instead of lumping all these individuals in with the many, many others with cf, which is often the aim of the BPS campaigners: to blur the boundaries, and make ME/CFS disappear, this community has been distinguished from all...
I've had positive experiences with steroids. The main thing was a noteable reduction in muscle pain. It was wonderful. No other symptoms improved, but I might have forgotten, as this was many years ago.
What can I say here....:banghead::banghead::banghead:
Not again! Or still...?
"Negative perfectionism". Yes, deny pwLC and pwME have any debilitating symptoms, then call this group negative perfectionists. Having too high a standard to get back into the mainstream.
They don't listen, or care...
What a remarkable person. Her work and determination have helped save many, many lives.
On the subject of academia, which we have both been involved in, my other half and I were just talking about university research. Hopefully not all of it is repetition, repetition, or frittering away...
"No underlying condition found...", however...causes could be put further up on the list. Some don't read past the heading and a couple sentences, as everyone knows.
I wondered too about your teddy bear, @Mithriel
It's clear now. And, an excellent way to present ME, I think. The juxtaposition of a very familiar, well-loved, symbol of softness, warmth, happiness, care, and safety, contrasted with the unknown, unfamiliar, cruel, devastating, mistreated...
Thank you @adambeyoncelowe
I completely agree. I appreciate Chivers tackling this subject. We are in the thick of this, many of us for decades. We, each in our own ways are subject experts. For an outsider to take up this topic, research, write and publish it is a big undertaking. To do so in...
IMO the Other Side has not accepted correction from our community for a long time. If ever.
After all how could the lowly, crazy patients know what ails them? ;)
One size fits all. It appears the Other Side still wants to lump in conditions like IBS, Fibromyalgia, and who know what else with ME, which will dilute and obscure the picture of this distinct disease. Something that seems to be an aim of this group.
Exactly.
We know the Oxford criteria are so vague, many people, including healthy people could be included in the CF category.
For example, a very fit, healthy person who had fatigue for well over 6 months. Their hemoglobin was fine. Their ferritin was very significantly low. Despite this...
@Arvo
I too have thought about the BPS avoidance of "treating" pw severe ME. Perhaps
this avoidance is due to the belief this model would harm the severely affected. In which case, they are not confident their "treatment" is entirely safe.
Or, is it more a case of optics. Not looking good...
Excellent points @Invisible Woman
And for the love of .... surely we have the right to be angry. What about other groups who have been stigmatized for years? Lately their right to be angry, and protest has been recognized, and applauded. At least by non-knuckle-dragging citizens who are...
