Mimicking the brain: EBV and foreign agents as drivers of neuroimmune attack in multiple sclerosis, 2023, Olivia G. Thomas

T cells have an essential role in adaptive immunity against pathogens and cancer, but failure of thymic tolerance mechanisms can instead lead to escape of T cells with the ability to attack host tissues. Multiple sclerosis (MS) occurs when structures such as myelin and neurons in the central...

Suppressed immune and metabolic responses to intestinal damage-associated microbial translocation in [ME/CFS], 2023, Uhde, Vernon et al.

I would put leaky gut in the same category as adrenal insufficiency diagnosed by chiropractors and naturopaths. I would describe them as fad diagnosis.

The idea that ME subtypes explain treatments only working for some—thoughts?

I benefitted from taking CoQ10 years ago because my blood levels were low. Might be indirectly related to M.E. and oxidative stress(which was very high on my test panel), just like it would with other pathologies. It almost feels like a 'boost', but certainly isn't a permanent effect, in...

Baroreflex sensitivity is impaired in survivors of mild COV-19 at 3–6 months of clinical recovery; association with carotid artery stiffness, 2023

Abstract The association between the stiffening of barosensitive regions of central arteries and the derangements in baroreflex functions remains unexplored in COVID-19 survivors. Fifty-seven survivors of mild COVID-19 (defined as presence of upper respiratory tract symptoms and/or fever...

Do you believe that “viral persistence” is the cause of ongoing MECFS and LC?

I think that LC on the other hand might be a persistent viral infection based on brain tissue samples obtained from deceased pts.

The LIFT trial (OMF) - Pyridostigmine (mestinon) and Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Jarod Younger (brain 'on fire' guy) did a small study in 2014 and found that LDN helps with pain syndromes.

The LIFT trial (OMF) - Pyridostigmine (mestinon) and Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Unfortunately LDN made my sleep worse in the same way Elavil(amitriptyline) did 20 yrs ago. I discontinued after 2 weeks. I don't have pain but it did help some people with pain syndromes. I got LDN through a compounding pharmacy in Canada.

Long Covid in the media and social media 2023

The U.S. #Census is considering survey changes that would reduce #disability prevalence estimates from 14% to just 8%. Such changes are troubling in that they could conceal C0VID-related health consequences.

Focus on Post-Exertional Malaise [in] ME/CFS in specialist healthcare improves satisfaction, reduces deteriorations, 2023,Wormgoor Rodenberg

My M.E doctor advised me 31 years ago to do nothing, and when I started feeling better again to continue doing nothing. I guess this is still the best simple advice to give patients. All specialist healthcare practice for ME/CFS don't understand PEM either.

"The disabling weakness and exhaustion a person with ME/CFS experiences is so profound that "fatigue" is ...probably an insult." -Jane Cuozzo

NHS Wales - Primary fatigue service

I'm not sure PEM should be put in the fatigue category no matter how it's worded. But I guess for the time being it's ok?

Inosine Pranobex: A Key Player in the Game Against a Wide Range of Viral Infections and Non-Infectious Diseases, 2019, Jiri Sliva et al

One positive from taking Immunovir was that it eliminated very painful oral ulcers/virus outbreaks. I would get these outbreaks every 2 years 10 before I got M.E. The virologist I saw authored several papers on EBV complications.

If you had to guess ME/CFS cause, what'd you say?

This is the case for me too, the delay is around 12-14 hrs fro me. What is interesting is that over exerting my cognitive energy affects my calf muscles, I feel as though I climbed a mountain, my arms are also affected. The symptoms are immediate and the recovery period is much faster.

Inosine Pranobex: A Key Player in the Game Against a Wide Range of Viral Infections and Non-Infectious Diseases, 2019, Jiri Sliva et al

It took 2.5 months. The doctor I saw was one of the authors from that small study for CFS patients taking Immunovir. We did some testing before I took it, all my lymphocytes (CD4 and CD8 et) were all way below normal. When I called to inform him what had happened, he told me to stop...
