The Robot Doctor Will See You Now

We’re already at a point where we have to assume that any media online can be fake. I’m just waiting to see if the first giant disaster will be because of someone using AI for evil, or because of someone using AI stupidly. It’s 50/50. The problem is that AI for evil probably has happened...

Open TRI-ME: Trimetazidine to treat Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled efficacy trial

Abstract Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a common and disabling condition with a paucity of effective and evidence-based therapies, reflecting a major unmet need. Cognitive behavioural therapy and graded exercise are of modest benefit for only some ME/CFS...

Open TRI-ME: Trimetazidine to treat Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled efficacy trial

I was going to applaud the use of blinding and placebo.. @Yann04 how is the trial funded? It might not have come out of earmarked ME/CFS-money, so the alternative cost might be zero. I still agree that it would have been better do to basic research first.

Can we influence trial and review methodology, eg open-label trials with subjective primary outcomes?

Science exists on a gradient like everything else. There’s excellent science and terrible science. So yes, the problem occurs when people believe that science has an inherent value or that it represents an inherent truth. There’s a quote that I often think of: If you manipulate the data, the...

Can we influence trial and review methodology, eg open-label trials with subjective primary outcomes?

We’re getting to the core of modern power structures here. People just want a report or a piece of paper that says what they want it to say. The truth or facts doesn’t matter - or they believe that it’s all relative and it all comes down to opinions anyways. Most people go along with it...

Can we influence trial and review methodology, eg open-label trials with subjective primary outcomes?

Who’s going to make it compulsory? That’s the key issue here. The people with the power to change things either don’t know about the issue, don’t care about it or don’t believe that it’s an issue at all.

Can we influence trial and review methodology, eg open-label trials with subjective primary outcomes?

This is exceedingly common in business as well. If an EU directive makes your life difficult, it’s easier to just not think about it or argue that it’s irrelevant. And if you didn’t have a good mentor, you might not even be aware of the directive or you don’t know how to pay attention to the...

Can we influence trial and review methodology, eg open-label trials with subjective primary outcomes?

@Valerie Eliot Smith tried to get the ME/CFS community to push in the same direction. Nobody wanted to listen. I’m not saying we should give up. But I don’t see another clear path forward. Btw, this might be a topic for another thread...

Can we influence trial and review methodology, eg open-label trials with subjective primary outcomes?

Most people are mostly concerned about their immediate surroundings - including us. There are plenty of non-ME/CFS topics to be outraged about as well - most people aren’t.

Bioaccumulation of microplastics in decedent human brains, 2025, Nihart et al

How would that affect the measurements? If you take the weight or volume of the piece you check and divide it by the total mass or volume of the brain, the proportions are constant regardless of expansion. If they store the pieces over a long period of time, I assume they measure and log the...

Bioaccumulation of microplastics in decedent human brains, 2025, Nihart et al

It might be that there’s an upper limit for how much MNP that can accumulate in the brain, and that most people nowadays are exposed to enough MNP to comfortably reach the upper limit?

Transcriptomics analysis reveals potential mechanisms underlying mitochondrial dysfunction and T cell exhaustion … in space, 2025, Moreno-Villanueva+

Are there known connections going the other way? It’s good to learn from other fields, but even better if those fields become interested in ME/CFS because it might benefit their work.

Her: You’re hurting me! Them: No, I’m not. Us: You’re hurting her! Them: No, you’re delusional. How confident do you have to be in your own opinion to brush off claims of damage at your hands? This is the kind of behaviour that makes me wish for a lower threshold for personal legal liability...
