An excellent letter-to-the-editor by physiotherapist and mother of a severe ME patient. It is written for a health political journal and directed towards the Danish Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke. As many of you will remember, the Danish Parliament overruled the medical establishment this...

Jørgen Jelstad is making a book about ME together with author/actor/director Morten Borgersen and photographer Fin Serck-Hanssen. Low-dose naltrexone in the treatment of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), 2019, Polo et al.

I didn't know that was an acceptable practice within medical research, analysing retrospectively.

Open Cervicocranial dysfunction, neuroinflammation and infection in ME/CFS compared to healthy subjects, Bragée & Bertilson [MEPRO study]

It seems the date for the protocol is 09.09.2019. I wonder why Jonas Blomberg is listed among contributing researchers as he sadly passed away in February. Has he contributed with the protocol perhaps? Does this mean that others who are listed as contributing researchers might not be heavily...

Trial By Error: “Bristol, It Is Time to Withdraw Your Complaints to Berkeley”

I sent the following follow-up letter this morning to Jane Bridgwater, director of legal services at Bristol University. Dear Ms Bridgwater— I have not heard back from Bristol regarding my request of October 29th that the university withdraw its complaints to my own academic institution about...

Towards an institute for patient-led research - Trish Greenhalgh, BMJ blog November 12, 2019

She's was keynote speaker today at a conference in Oslo. I hope someone told her about the Norwegian research council's huge success with involving ME patients in distributing an earmarked allocation for ME research.

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

Your comment is right on point! Omdal seems most interested in the cytokine interleukin-1 beta, but also talks about epigenetics, dysfunctions in the mitochondria, dysfunctions in neuronal systems. Here is an overview of his research...

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

Agree. If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Towards the end of one of the lectures in the question round Wyller talked about Australian research showing that long term fatigue post infection is common. The interesting part is that those who keep their fatigue also keep the...

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

I gathered too that he meant the UK HRA, but he had also just mentioned the tribunal case. Here's what he said in his own words: It's actually a fact that cognitive therapy is the only thing that is properly scientifically documented. You in the audience know more about cognitive therapy than...

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

I do get the impression that he might have placed himself in an ivory tower and frankly doesn't pay that much attention to the PACE debate, biomedical research, patient organisations etc. I did record it, but only for my own note taking. As far as I'm aware it wasn't filmed or recorded otherwise.

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

Yes. I had expected more and was struck by the banality of it all. Is this really all he can come up with after having been a researcher in this field for such a long time?

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

MD, Phd and professor Linn Getz gave a lecture just before professor Wyller. She was quite critical to the biopsychosocial approach and I really liked this quote from her: I will define biopsychosocial as an ambitious, but unclarified 1970-notion, which has confused generations of experts and...

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

Wyller also did a short interview on radio in connection with the conference. He said that an important reason for the harsh debate is that many believe ME is either psychological or biological. He believes research shows it's both. It's not about conscious thoughts, but automatic responses...

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

I was able to attend Wyller's two lectures at this conference and took notes. I've only read interviews, papers and debate articles from him, never attended a lecture before, so was curious what he would say when he had a big stage and and hour in total at his disposal. I was not very...

Interleukin-1-related activity and hypocretin-1 in cerebrospinal fluid contribute to fatigue in primary Sjögren’s syndrome, 2019, Omdal et al

I listened to a lecture by Omdal yesterday. He's taken a PhD on cognitive dysfunctions in autoimmune diseases and realised how big fatigue is as a problem. He said that earlier fatigue was regarded as something functional, psychiatry, but he later got convinced that there must be a biology...
