    Autism and ME/CFS

Hi I'm autistic (and I have ME) I've been autistic my whole life. I've had ME for less than 20% of my life. I don't think you would find any autistic people agreeing with the idea that "ME is late onset autism". Autism does not involve any deficits in energy production or any exercise...

    Forward-ME Group Minutes - 8th May 2019

I think the sentence in the minutes is poorly worded and probably means that the video claims that GET is okay.

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

I'm autistic and I have ME (like, I definitely have ME, I'm diagnosed and I meet the ICC criteria). My ME started off mild, and for a long time I thought it was just "autism fatigue" (also known as autistic burnout), as I'd heard people talking about that in the autistic community. Even when my...

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

YUCK. So they're implying that me/CFS and FM both involve "illness beliefs" AND they're implying that autistic people are more likely to have faulty beliefs about their health. So they're managing to shit on both ME/cfs patients and autistic people with this one.

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

Simon Baron Cohen is disliked by the autistic community almost as much as Wessely etc are disliked by the ME community.

Unhealthy attachments: myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and the commitment to endure - chapter in book on queer commitment

It can be in some cases. "Scrupulosity" is the name for the religious form of OCD, and it can be absolutely devastating and debilitating for the sufferer. I know people who have suffered with this.

    Stretch marks

On another ME forum, there is a thread about symptoms of connective tissue degradation in PWME. Someone has suggested that having lots of stretch marks on the skin would be a sign of this. Do you think that is correct?

Esther Crawley (2019) Physical activity patterns among children and adolescents with mild-to-moderate CFS / ME [baseline accelerometer MAGENTA data]

My statistics may be a bit rusty as it's 2 years ago that I took a statistics course. But, I don't think that the use of regression analysis is even appropriate for this paper. You need to have solid grounds for treating one variable as the dependent variable in a regression, and the others as...

    'Recovery' statistics

(This isn't really "news" but I didn't know where else to put this thread.) Firstly let me clarify that I am not talking about the bogus 'recovery' statistics that are propagated by the BPS lot. Rather, I am referring to hearsay that ive heard within the ME community (from people who are not...

Invisibilia: For Some Teens With Debilitating Pain, The Treatment Is More Pain

'Orwellian' is right. Torture is treatment Illness is recovery Scientific critique is harassment Orwell knew how language can affect thought. If we rename torture as "treatment" then it suddenly becomes acceptable! And if we rename scientific critique as "harassment" then it suddenly becomes...
