Interesting that the comment by Winarick suggests CFS may not really exist. By suggesting that it's not a valid construct he means that it could be a social construct rather than a description of a thing that really exists in nature.
What does it say that this comment is made in response to an...
I also thought it was about postexertional malaise and that it was nice that hospitalists are becoming aware of this. But the cases didn't fit ME/CFS and then he presented his psychosomatic belief system.
The way this seems to work is this:
These companies need to back up their discriminatory policies with research. People like Fink and White produce this research and get rewarded for it.
Reality doesn't matter, it just has to look credible enough to broader society to make it difficult for...
I took the survey and asked some difficult questions they won't like.
Not sure about the usefulness of working on broad categories like "pain" and "fatigue", as if all pain and all fatigue was the same.
Not sure I understand the thinking but the assumed mechanism could be that low intelligence makes it harder for people who are in distress to resolve that distress, and unresolved emotional conflicts, as they believe, can be converted into bodily symptoms. The patients are of course too stupid...
How would the authors feel if there was a constant stream of shoddy research that asked questions such as:
Do researchers in the field of psychosomatic medicine have low IQ?
Do researchers in the field of psychosomatic medicine habitually use cocaine?
Do researchers in the field of...
If the viruses are so stealthy, how does he know they are there?
If he knows a method to reveal these stealthy viruses, can he publish to allow others to test this idea?
Or is this all pseudoscientific marketing for an expensive private clinic that loots desperate patients?
The idea is to do a cognitive test before the evening meal and afterwards. The no food group will wait 30 minutes instead of eating and then redo the test.
A simple but potentially interesting experiment. You can participate online. Unfortunately I don't qualify because they only want what they call mildly ill patients.
For those interested in biomarker discovery and quality control, this seems interesting. Maybe also of interest to @Jonathan Edwards. I'm trying to summarize:
They were 55% higher. Non-classical monocytes are described as anti-inflammatory and being involved in maintenance of vascular...
In my view PEM, at least at my level of severity, is something that is often the result of the cumulative doses of exertion, rather than single large doses of exertion. That means it matters how close to my tolerated level of exertion I was during the preceding days. I've also often seen PEM...
Hopefully the doctors involved in this will recognize ME/CFS when they see it.
Yes, and how much of this pattern is patients feeling better, trying to increase activity and then relapsing soon after?
What Philip Stark, a stats professor at Berkeley thinks about the CODES trial's design:
“The trial did not support the primary clinical outcome, only secondary outcomes that involve subjective ratings by the subjects and their physicians, who knew their treatment status. This is a situation in...
The reason may be that most patients were not given the diagnosis based on CCC and IOM critera but on Fukuda or NICE. Therefore you would have to do a retrospective diagnosis with the CCC and IOM which has the usual problems with recall.
Edit: and I suspect a lot of doctors don't follow...
I also have the suspicion there is a dynamic where teachers tell their students a lot of made up bullshit about the wonders of psychosomatic illness. The students then grow into academics themselves and find that fraud is rampant, and to have a career, they have to make up bullshit about...
