Covid-19 - School closures and partial school closures

I really hope this helps reduce the spread of Covid-19. In Italy, are all schools completely closed? Or do you still have schools open for “key workers” as in the UK?

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Yes.. although London is certainly one of a few areas where lockdown should and could have happened. Also in other countries, there were certain regions that were more badly hit. Also, why are shops still open? A friend is still working in a shop that sells toys and home accessories and towels...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I’ve now read a few articles from the independent, guardian and TIME magazine to try to figure out what China did. They started off with less “draconian” measures but after a while made those a lot stricter too. So this is what they ended up with: -widespread testing, isolation and contact...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

What did China do differently, that made their lockdown so effective? It is now looking like what was done in China, with the same sort of social restrictions, may be what is going to be needed in Europe.

UK: Coronavirus Bill could leave thousands of Disabled people without support

“The Bill will effectively free local authorities of their duties to provide social care support under the Care Act 2014”, Sorry I cannot read the Bill as I’m not feeling too well. Could someone please summarise why the govt is putting this in the bill and why they are freeing local authorities...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I’m not happy about the fact lots of people from London are relocating to other parts of the country at this present time. Mark Handley, a scientist from UCL that I follow, seems to have worked out that 1 in 25 people in London would be infected with the Coronavirus.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I have a feeling that when the time comes to it, if they start with their yo-yo strategy and deaths start to increase once again (while other countries are probably doing the opposite), they’ll be forced to backtrack and do a U-turn, all the while saying the “science has changed”. Just like with...

Pain in ME–what helps you and what can I do?

I thought I would give an update and good news for everyone who has helped me :) I took people’s advice here and started very slowly with nortryptyline. Chopped 10mg tablet into 10, slowly built up. And I’ve been on 10mg now for a couple of months. It’s helped my arm pain so much! You can...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

In London they shut lots of tube stations from today. Except now everyone is getting on at the few stations that are still running. Because they’re forced to go to work as there’s no provisions for proper sick pay / citizens income etc, and many could lose their jobs otherwise. I really despair...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Head of Chinese Red Cross visited Italy and was very critical, said their lockdown is not good enough. Said public transport is still going, people are still gathering, economic activities still going on.. Sounds very much like what the UK is trying to do.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Yes. Chair of BMA said on the news today that patients from London hospitals were being moved to hospitals outside, as they didn’t even have enough beds.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Quite a lot has changed since then (for the UK definitely). Deaths are ~140 I think today, and ~3300 cases.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

That’s a scary thought. I’m watching and waiting every day for the govt to announce some proper measures at press conference - but am not seeing it. I think London is not 3 weeks behind Italy. From a scientist I follow, they said London is 7-10 days behind Italy.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

When you said, if things are locked down then the current peak will go down within 10 days. But with Italy, I think it’s been over 10 days since they’ve been locked down and the number of new cases and deaths per day are still rising? Or do you mean with a 14 day lag, and then 10 days? With...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Many things but definitely the fact fewer people are being identified, as no one in the community with symptoms is being tested - only if you are admitted to hospital.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Do we know when we may be expected to “peak” and when it may be, that cases would come down to very low levels again, in the UK? Obviously it’s dependent on social distancing. But is there a rough estimate

When my mum tried to place a sainsburys order, for some cleaning things, It came with at least half the things missing. luckily, we have food still in the cupboard (we generally try to keep it quite well stocked because if my boyfriend doesn’t come some weeks due to other caring duties, then...
