    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

Maybe completely irrelevant, but I had the jab on the left side and had at the time a recent herpes simplex lip outbreak on left side. Other than that, dunno.

Does the Addition of Pain Neurophysiology Education ... Physical Function in Women with [FM].., 2021, Ceballos-Laita et al

Doubt whether any 'therapeutic exercise' wouldn't increase my pain in that body part. Researchers of exercises and all sorts of other fibro 'interventions' just don't get it, fibro is not some simpy little defect. It is hugely pervasive and resistant to piddly efforts (outside of heat, drugs to...

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

The left side of my face went numb, too, first Pfizer jab. I had a 30 minute episode (facial numbness on left side, tinnitus increase, half my left side visual field with zigs and zags and light bursts). I described the symptoms to my opthamologist (who may be smarter than my primary care doc)...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

In May, our county in California had an average of 2.7 postives per 100k population. After the June reopening and with the mask mandate removed (except for the suggested nonvaccinated wearing masks), the case rate has increased to 6 per 100k. This leaves always a pool of over 700 people...

Effects of a mindfulness-based and acceptance-based group programme followed by physical activity for patients with fibromyalgia, 2021, Haugmark et al

And the types of physical activities offered were painful to individual patients (my experience with generic chronic pain education groups w/exercise therapy thrown in).

Passive transfer of fibromyalgia symptoms from patients to mice, 2021, Goebel et al

I'll have to reread carefully, but I hope this leads somewhere. Small study. I hope there is expansion on this topic. Exciting!

Effects of a mindfulness-based and acceptance-based group programme followed by physical activity for patients with fibromyalgia, 2021, Haugmark et al

Patient selection was a bit skewed : they had to be involved in school or work within the last two years. This means that either they were recently diagnosed or that they are mildly affected. At least the post testing was done 12 months after the intervention.

Influence of Priming on Patient-Reported Outcome Measures: A Randomized Controlled Trial, 2016, Claessen et al.

Pain (even when it's centralized--nothing 'wrong' with body, just the brain and lack of dampening ascending and descending pathways), Pain's function is to get your attention. Sometimes pain is not mild, is not susceptible to being ignored by distraction, denial, or positive thinking or...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

Riveting podcast (Vincent Rancaniello's twiv) with writer/analyst Laurie Barrett who has microbiology graduate training and has written books about and has covered epidemics since the 1980s. https://www.microbe.tv/twiv/twiv-773/ I listened to the full two hours, but you could listen starting...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

Rancaniello thinks it's hype, and I am reporting his take on this because I listen to every podcast on TWIV. Some of my reported remarks of his are his off the cuff comments, which I know aren't quite scienc-y enough. I certainly am not qualified to conjecture on origins matter. I hope we will...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

I meant to relay that Rancaniello said that it took ten years to trace the lineage back to key sequences in a bat cave in Yunaan where necessary recombination took place (leading eventually to the finding in the civet). That was accomplished in 2013-16 (Wiki entry Sars-1).

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

Virologist Vincent Rancaniello has an excellent podcast series (twiv microbe tv) about viruses and knows the chief Wuhan virologist. He points out that the Sars Co-vi-2 virus does not have what he terms a lab signature in its make-up. It is extremely unlikely if not impossible he said to have...

NIH Heal (addiction) Initiative to promote alternative therapies for post-surgical pain

Pain treatment at the NIH is under the rubric of addiction to opioids. Therefore, since alternative/integrative therapies are, according to them, shown to be helpful in alleviating some pain, surgeons at the Mayo clinic will be part of a pilot study in verbally suggesting alternative therapies...

Long Covid epidemiology (prevalence, incidence, recovery rates)

I like the Guardian article. It has some immunology I was unaware of. (https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/jun/13/why-are-women-more-prone-to-long-covid).

A person-centred test of multidimensional perfectionism and health in people with chronic fatigue syndrome versus healthy controls, 2021, Sirois et al

Who has the energy to be the least bit perfectionistic? By god, we should all be exemplars of fitness by now.

Does pain neuroscience education appear to work because it teaches patients to downplay their pain?

Especially during the afternoon, as the pain interference (my term for it) increases, instead of telling myself: oh woe is me, screw fibro, I remind myself to do what will lower my pain: capsaicin cream, or a hot bath, stretching, and taking a muscle relaxant, lying on a heating pad. Or all of...

    Media items about obesity

On the USA side, fast food is cheap, high in calories and ubiquitous, as is food advertising. Corn syrup and sugar and fat are added to processed food and fast food freely. Most of the population is less active than in decades past. More people in cars, working longer hours. Food is used as...
