Public ‘Social’ Mitochondria, Whispering Between Cells, Influence Health - Quanta Magazine

Is it not possible to have thorough methodology but to have flawed results if the methodology is applied to the wrong cohort?

Public ‘Social’ Mitochondria, Whispering Between Cells, Influence Health - Quanta Magazine

Knowing what we now know it might be interesting to look back at the work of Behan and his collaborators from either side of 1990. He claimed to find abnormalities in muscle mitochondria. Edwards said he couldn't distinguish them from controls. That seemed to put paid to that. However it seems...

News from the Visegrád Countries - Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary

Interesting. So all they need to do is say what they mean by "cannot" and by "organic".

‘Help Holger now’ video about a Swedish man with very severe ME

It would be interesting to know whether that is a coincidence, or part of the plan. edited some spurious words. I wish I had not lost the ability to proof-read.

News from the Visegrád Countries - Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary

Do they present that as an "analytic" or "synthetic" view? i.e. are psychological illnesses, by definition, those for which no detectable cause has been found, or do they have other empirical criteria for "psychological"?

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

I ethere anything in that that could not have been, and probably was, written in 1985. Apparently she is an aspiring medical anthropologist. No wonder she quotes Kleinman with approval.

[Blog] Beyond the NICE guideline: MEComms© and the case for a public inquiry

I agree. But I must admit to a sneaking wish to see Peter Lilley, Mansell Aylward and LoCascio subpoened and a production order for the DWP documentation from the time. That would have the shredders working overtime.

General thread on functional disorders in Denmark

That last post needs some amendment. "PRISMA" appears to have been merely one provider of rehabilitation services. As such it entered into agreement with insurance companies for a particular range of services. It seems probable that insurance companies would, in each area that they covered...

United Kingdom: News from Forward-ME Group

I like the idea of "vulnerable" clinicians. Aren't words versatile.

Government and Insurance companies - establishing the BPS model

I wonder whether we have been following an "Irrlicht" with SW and PRISMA. ( I do like that word, especially as we are all on a "Winterreise" of or own.) We need to go back to basics and look for substantive corroborative evidence for the existence of PRISMA and its dealings. The matter always...

General thread on functional disorders in Denmark

It would be interesting if the TryghedsGruppen could be tied more closely to the "PRISMA" group of aligned insurance companies- whatever that might be, or have been. It would certainly explain a great deal if the Nordic countries are involved.

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Would be interesting to know who it is at the BBC pushing that line. Is it the science editor? Does he get briefed by the usual source?

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

I did wonder about that and had a quick look at his other publications from about that time, but could see nothing obvious. It is a pity. One would have expected his paper to be tailored in some way to the circumstances and the audience, and should have been informative.

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

There is an interesting side story about the SF36-well, I find it interesting anyway. At the Illness Behaviour Conference in 1985, at which Cott introduced the McMaster BPS model to the world, a paper was delivered by Dr J Ware of the Rand Corporation. It appears that he was at that time...

Government and Insurance companies - establishing the BPS model

The precise relationship between PRISMA and Prisma Health is unknown but this work for the Insurance Bureau of Canada seems to be entirely in line with the stated intentions of PRISMA and it would be surprising if there were no connection. We would always have suspected that Swiss Re, UNUM and...
