Explore - A Systematic Review of The Evidence Base for the Lightning Process - 2020 - by Phil Parker et al

Unless somebody can point to a detailed description of some process to which the words allude, this would appear to be a study of the words "the Lightning Process".

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome' 2017, Larun et al. - Recent developments, 2018-19

And that he was an early member of Campaign against Health Fraud, later Health Watch, alongside such as Caroline Richmond and Simon Wessely, which appears to have exceeded its original remit of pursuing the quacks who preyed on gullible invalids to pursuing the invalids themselves. This may...

BMJ Management of post-acute Covid-19 in primary care, 2020, Greenhalgh et al

Nonsense (sorry SimonM. Don't mean you.) "One of the chief functions of therapy at this stage", Wessely and colleagues say," is to allow the patients to call a halt without loss of face...... The report ( the 1989 Wessely David Chalder Butler report) advises telling patients they don't have a...

Is that response from Powis coherent? One can only hope that someone else drafted it and that he signed it at the end of a long day.

Peter White (ed.) 2005, Biopsychosocial Medicine: An integrated approach to understanding illness

How times change. Quoted from above: Wessely: Cancer patients do not lobby for psychologists because they believe that psychological factors are why they developed cancer in the first place (which is certainly progress given that in previous times there have been scientists who have made those...

Be fair, one at least was quite powerful in terms of carrying the message to the patients.

Disentangling fatigue from anhedonia: a scoping review, 2020, Billones et al

What I have never understood is why people insist in describing fatigue as merely a set of subjective experiences without any relation to, or association with, the accompanying reduction of physical or mental capacity. They may say that these are not measurable, but they are observable. People...

UK - NHS England online tool and clinics for long Covid.

I don't think we should be critical of this letter. There is a balancing act to perform. If you tell people to find a baseline and then not seek to increase activity in some ways you will be accused, perhaps not unreasonably, of encouraging exercise avoidance.

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Is she arguing that strokes, pulmonary embolisms and cardiac damage are characteristic of a majority of post covid syndrome? There clearly are such cases and categorisation will no doubt be difficult. But what about the other cases?

Towards the unity of pathological and exertional fatigue: A predictive coding model, 2020, Greenhouse-Tucknott et al.

On reflection I have found this paper immensely valuable, not because of what it says-I pretty much gave up on it with the "coding" metaphor- but for where it leads in terms of understanding. We have been led down the track of psychiatrisation of ME back through personal vulnerability...

The Stanford Daily: Stanford Medicine professor (José Montoya) fired for violating University rules of conduct (june 2019)

Amantadine was ried in ME. I don't know whether there was ever a trial, but it was not beneficial.

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

I think this is what is called an "evidence based approach". There is some evidence for this, so it can be extrapolated to all cases.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for chronic fatigue and CFS: outcomes from a specialist clinic in the UK (2020) Adamson, Wessely, Chalder

If a patient was missing 25% or less of the data from any questionnaire, a prorated score was calculated (this used the mean of the remaining items from the same individual to calculate a prorated score). Why not just make it all up as you go along? What science is there to validate this as a...
