THE PACE TRIAL SUCCEEDED, BY A LOT! :emoji_wink:

NICE ME/CFS draft guideline - publication dates and delays 2020

Question - regarding commenting on the draft in the designated threads - I do not have the energy to write my feedback in a well-written way - is it okay to just note my thoughts and then the people writing the s4me response to the consultation will consider my thoughts when writing the response?

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Does that really leave enough time for people to submit responses to the consultation? Considering that a lot or the people wanting to submit responses suffer from ME...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

PS I hugely enjoyed the comment in Jonathan Edwards' testimony about how every doctor should have learned in medical school that there are problems with unblinded trials with subjective outcomes. Savage.

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

My main worries are: (a) BPS people trying to get it changed by arguing that GET is "evidence-based". (b) the BPS people will try to take control of the narrative by claiming that NICE has bowed to pressure from patients, rather than listening to the science. Unfortunately, a sizeable amount...

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

I want a mug saying 'BPS tears' on it. (Probably shouldn't say that, should I? They're probably watching the forum for evidence of ME patients being mean about them. Oh well. Go cry yourself to sleep Mr Sharpe. Goodness knows you've caused us 10000x the amount of tears over the years.)

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

This is much better than I expected. I'm really surprised, considering that there are so many BPS people on the committee. Massive well done to all the non-BPS people on the committee!

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

Yeah I read more and apparently it's because, out of the 94 people who developed covid, 90% of them had received the placebo instead of the vaccine. I don't understand how that means that the vaccine is "90% effective". I guess we also don't know how many of the 43000 people were exposed to covid?

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

Why the figure of 90% effective, when only 94 out of 43000 people developed covid?

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

I know her! (Vaguely...) She was president of, I can't remember what exactly, maybe the feminism society, during my time at uni.

United Kingdom: News from Forward-ME Group

I notice that @Jonathan Edwards and @Andy are both signatories to the Forward-ME statement on spinal surgery. Are they members now?

United Kingdom: News from Forward-ME Group

Could anybody summarise the differences between the two, please? (I'm too brain fogged to work it out.)

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Which, incidentally, is something that students with certain disabilities have been asking for for years (at least at my old uni), and being told it couldn't be done :emoji_upside_down:

NICE ME/CFS draft guideline - publication dates and delays 2020

"The past was alterable. The past had never been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia." (Orwell, 1984)

NICE ME/CFS draft guideline - publication dates and delays 2020

Maybe it's because it's cheaper for the NHS... or maybe it's more sinister. A focus on psychological aspects of mental health problems, like "you need to change the way you think", directs attention away from social/political problems that may be causing people depression and anxiety. IMO, a...
