#MEAction UK: Questions to Ask Prospective MPs About ME/CFS

The question I would ask MEAction is why they feel making this claim, "In the UK, there are an estimated 700,000 to 1.2 million people with ME", is useful.

Open GEM study - Prevalence of genetic diseases in ME/CFS patients, 2022, Esther Crawley, Bristol University

I've seen on Twitter that apparently the ME Association have highlighted this study in their weekly email newsletter. This is the listing on the Be Part of Research website, https://bepartofresearch.nihr.ac.uk/trial-details/trial-detail?trialId=11083&location=&distance=, where the contact is...

Prevalence of somatic symptoms among Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) survivors in Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis 2024 Mandizadza et al

Background Many Ebola virus disease (EVD) survivors have reported somatic and neuropsychological symptoms after discharge from the Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU). Chronic fatigue syndrome post-COVID-19: triple-blind randomised clinical trial of Astragalus root extract 2024 Banihashemi et al

Being paywalled, I am unable to determine how "chronic fatigue syndrome" was specified. Given that they then refer only to chronic fatigue in the later part of the abstract I doubt they used any criteria that screened for PEM.

A disease-associated gene desert directs macrophage inflammation through ETS2 [in IBD] 2024 Stankey et al

My suspicion was correct, the Genetics Delivery Team confirm that DecodeME will "perform a genome-wide association study (GWAS) which covers both coding and non-coding regions of the genome (the later representing more 98% of the genome) rather than looking at specific regions. Actually, the...

    The MEpedia Primer for Journalists

My opinion is that if the acronym ME/CFS is going to be used, which I personally favour, then it should be written as, "ME/CFS Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), sometimes referred to as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a serious and...

A disease-associated gene desert directs macrophage inflammation through ETS2 [in IBD] 2024 Stankey et al

Simple answer is I don't know if we will or won't. I suspect that as we are looking across the whole genome, some of our results will come from what are currently considered to be non-coding regions, but I have asked the question of the team, and will come back with an informed answer.
