Whether to have a flu vaccination

I can't take the risk with the flu shot. Never had one. It was a flu-like cold that caused my mild ME onset and a very nasty flu which sent me into an acute severe ME onset. My mother had a bad reaction to the flu shot a few years ago. She was very ill with vertigo for six weeks. I was so...

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

@Forbin Very much what I experience. My gait gets much worse and I have to concentrate on walking. It's hard work and with the feeling like you aren't going to make it. The unsteadiness is awful.

    Poll and discussion: Ear Problems

I can't recall ever having an ear infection. I do get a thick feeling in my ears from time to time but that could be due to chronic sinusitis. I have had two bouts of vertigo since having ME. The last one was due to a small knock to the head.

Latent class analysis of a heterogeneous international sample of patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (Leonard Jason team)

I think brain fog is possibly apt for some members because their cognitive symptoms are not as severe as others. @Trish Thank goodness we have some MEs like you who don't get the brain symptoms as bad as other MEs. You write so well and we need good speakers and writers like you. :) I find the...

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

I lost a lot weight at my severe onset also. I also couldn't make up that weight that I lost until I got to menopause. (14 years from severe ME onset to menopause). Something I noticed during those years until now regarding my weight was every time I gained weight near the 60kg mark I would get...

Poll: Do your symptoms improve when you fast for 1-2 days?

Not sure about fasting. When I am at my sickest I get very weak with nausea and cannot eat. I start to improve a few days later with the help of a little lemonade which I only take sips of. It seems my own body puts me into a fast when this sick which might help for a little while, a day or...

Two new studies on physical inactivity and its effect on metabolic function

Same here. I used to be able to tone up to a level that I like in 3 weeks before ME. Since ME I can't tone up properly. When I do try I get severe PEM. It's as if there is not enough or too much of something there in the muscle to tone up properly and because of that PEM is triggered in the...

    Coping with hot weather

Last summer I found wetting a soft thick tea towel and laying it over my chest in bed helped to get me off to sleep.

Solve ME/CFS Initiative - Editorial: PEM. It's time to Retire the Term

I prefer to keep malaise. Malaise envisions to me someone languishing in bed really sick with something. I was wondering last night if another language apart from English has a better description of what PEM is like but then it would mean nothing to those of us who don't understand that...

PEM discussion thread - post-exertional malaise

I get it immediately too. In my severe years I got a headache immediately along with the difficulty to think. Couldn't bear anyone to talk to me, not able to answer questions in any detail except for yes, no. I would also get the delayed PEM after this.

Who was it that said being in support groups leads to poor outcome?

Same here through my mild years. It wasn't until severe ME onset and PEM so severe that I finally was able to work out that it was ME and that took another 10 months after severe onset. I had been trying to carry on as normal through my mild years but getting sicker and sicker.

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

I didn't think the area for the throat swab was a good one but what do I know. ;) When I was taking the swab it felt like I wasn't getting much of anything. To me it was more the back wall of the mouth not the throat. I'm sure they called it the throat swab.

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

Same here. Everything changed for me when I got an infection that changed my microbiome. I think this is where it all started for me as well. My microbiome changes were significant but no one knew much about all this back then. I noticed years later that 'psychological ?' had been written down...

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

@EzzieD I missed reading an email from Ubiome and got the same message you did for my throat swab. They are testing it again, so could be a long wait again. Next time I will go for the 5 microbiome if it comes up again at reduced price.

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

@TigerLilea I think for some of us we have microbiome changes that possibly lead us on to ME. (?) I think I have other areas of microbiome that won't be great. I would have liked to have done the 5 microbiome combo when they reduced the price earlier this year but didn't have enough spare money...

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

Thanks @Inara I saw Streptococcus but not Staphylococcus in the my nose sample. The Streptococcus wasn't high though. My sinuses were bad at the time I took the swabs so I need to go through everything they found and see if I can understand anything that may be going on.

Free nasal microbiome test/study at uBiome

I received the nose swab result only today. Throat swab is still being processed. I couldn't see the breakdown of bacteria, so will have to go back in and find. Nose swab. 8.49 out of 10 for microbiome diversity. 96th percentile. Sounds like I have lots of bacteria? Is that good or maybe...

    The Oncogenic Paradox

I should add that I was so sick it felt like I not only had cancer but meningitis, nasty flu on top and more.

    The Oncogenic Paradox

My severe onset ME and the months following felt like the last month of cancer. I felt terminally ill. I often felt my body was putting me through chemotherapy. There must be some similar pathway or something very close to it or like what happens in chemotherapy. @Philipp I only listened to a...

    Stamina levels before ME/CFS?

@Cinders66 I did have two jobs (full-time + part-time) off and on over the years before ME hit. I found I could only do it for awhile. I would get lots of colds close together and that was always a sign to me I was getting run down and had to give the second job away.
