Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I'm lucky to live in an area with lots of country walks and open areas. My husband's morning walk was much, much busier than usual. Most of the time you can stay 6" + away, but some of the trails and paths narrow unexpectedly and are steep sided. I think some people seem to be of a "snow-day"...

UK: Coronavirus Bill could leave thousands of Disabled people without support

And so many were getting less than the bare minimum help they needed anyway.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I agree that non essential shops should close. I'm not sure why Waterstones hasn't. Perhaps because it hasn't an online presence? Most of the shops I use online have physical stores. My inbox has been much busier with messages from them saying they are closing their stores, but are still...

Covid-19 - School closures and partial school closures

This is what I mean about issues with advice and lines of communication. The schools and teachers could have been better informed. I have a relative who is a teacher, works hard and sometimes out of hours doing prep work. However she is very used to a structured environment. Most emergency...

Rethinking the treatment of CFS — a reanalysis and evaluation of findings from a recent major trial of GET and CBT (2018) Wilshire et al.

I think Alem's result has greater implications - that citizens, or citizen scientists are worth listening too and have valuable contributions to make. Of course @Tom Kindlon & our much missed Bob have made great and undeniable contributions, but I see Alem's FOI as the thin end of the wedge...

Covid-19 - School closures and partial school closures

Sure, I'm not disputing any of that @Simbindi, but it would be useful to understand who was advising the govt if head teachers are not being heard. Unless we can get the people who really do know what's going on and how to organize it heard then the chaos continues. It does seem that some...

    Hand Sanitizers

No idea if it would work but my hands are in bits. My skin doesn't like soap at the best of times and if I don't do something soon I'm going to have cracks and splits in the skin. What I'd be like if I was having to apply an alcohol based solution to them them if I had to be out and about I...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I'm not so sure the figures are accurate. There was a clip of the mayor of one Italian region (sorry didn't catch the region) who was saying that the elderly dying at home and at care homes weren't being included in the figures. Unless we all start working together I think we'll end up with a...

Covid-19 - School closures and partial school closures

I'm certainly not defending them. I would be interested to hear who was advising the government about managing the different aspects of this. Like schools, for example. If head teachers weren't involved then who was? Obviously the buck stops with whoever is in power, but just how much of...

Covid-19 - School closures and partial school closures

No, I understand that @Simbindi. I wasn't trying to compare the two. Just discussing that aspect of employment. I understand the school buildings being open longer etc will mean far more work. If anything they need to be doubling their cleaning staff and I have no doubt that they are...

Covid-19 - School closures and partial school closures

IM's employers cancelled leave early last week. They are never allowed to carry leave over from one year to the next, but are now permitting it subject to approval. Of course cutting back on staff in recent years makes booking holidays very difficult as there has to be a minimum level of cover...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Especially, now that Londoners are relocating to more rural areas. It would give everyone peace of mind and potentially slow down the spread.

A much younger relative is a schoolteacher in Lima. Schools are closed. She's still working from her flat but via video link & teleconferencing. They have soldiers on the streets helping police social distancing measures.

Covid-19 related treatment and other scams

I think there are some very questionable claims being made there - The course (free) will boost your immune system and so reduce your chance of catching the virus. If you catch the virus, doing the course is likely to reduce covid 19 symptoms. Then, and most dangerous of all in my eyes...

Do graded activity therapies cause harm in chronic fatigue syndrome? (Kindlon, 2017)

I have actually used the original paper when someone was considering recommending GET for me. I think they felt I had little to lose by trying it but the paper made them think again. Thank you @Tom Kindlon
