Public urged to wear face masks again as new Covid sub-variant sweeps Britain

I went to the dentists recently and the dentist didn't wear a mask. I don't think anyone at the practice - employees or visitors - did (except me!).

Public urged to wear face masks again as new Covid sub-variant sweeps Britain

I wear a mask when in public, although I'm not sure if I need to as I think my ME is autoimmune. It's better than having to go to hospital.

Sleep pattern and symptom severity over the course of the day.

I feel grotty on waking, sometimes/often/usually get worse over time (possibly dependent on eating), then usually feel gradually better from about 1500. It varies a bit, but I think I always feel grotty on waking or getting up.

Social economic factors and the risk of multiple chemical sensitivity in a Danish population-based cross-sectional study: 2023 Bjerregaard et al

Is MCS actually defined as due to inhalation of chemicals? I thought that it could include effects produced by contact with skin, for example.

Two symptoms can accurately identify post-exertional malaise in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome 2023 Davenport et al

"Inquiring about post-exertional cognitive dysfunction" may well not identify everyone who is suffering from post-exertional cognitive dysfunction, as they might not even understand questions! I haven't read the whole thing, so maybe there is some way to compensate for this.

BBC article: Are Iranian schoolgirls being poisoned by toxic gas?, 2023 (quotes Wessely)

It has definitely been changed since my initial posting, because it now says: "The spread of cases across the country and the fact it has been predominantly affecting schoolgirls, with fewer boys and adults falling ill, were central to his conclusion, he said."

BBC article: Are Iranian schoolgirls being poisoned by toxic gas?, 2023 (quotes Wessely)

I'm not sure whether this was included in the original version, but it also says: "Most cases have been at girls' schools. There have also been some reports of teachers and schoolboys affected, along with parents who have arrived at the scene."

BBC article: Are Iranian schoolgirls being poisoned by toxic gas?, 2023 (quotes Wessely)

Wessely says Iranian girls' symptoms are probably "mass sociogenic illness". This would appear to be a serious statement, when Iranian girls are being excluded from school: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-64829798 "Prof Simon Wessely, a psychiatrist and epidemiologist at King's...

CNN: Zero-calorie sweetener (erythritol) linked to heart attack and stroke, study finds

I avoid xylitol as much as possible as it's toxic to dogs. Really seriously toxic. But erythritol isn't, so they must have an important difference.

CNN: Zero-calorie sweetener (erythritol) linked to heart attack and stroke, study finds

I would assume that being vegan would considerably reduce the risk, as I believe that veganism reduces clotting risk. "Additional lab and animal research presented in the paper revealed that erythritol appeared to be causing blood platelets to clot more readily." Animal research is extremely...
