Exactly. Like many others, I can do something, enjoy it, feel fine for the next 2 days then wham, can't get out of bed on the 3rd day (or the 4th, 5th and 6th either!)
It isn't deconditioning either because people are fit then get a virus then never get better. It takes weeks to become...
Anyone who follows the cartoon adventures in Bloom County at https://www.facebook.com/berkeleybreathed
knows that Opus is a lovable penguin who resembles a puffin and gives us comfort in stressful times.
How dare they use his name as a tool of oppression!
I get very anxious in cars. Finally I realise that I cannot see motion very well because of the ME so traffic suddenly appears from nowhere. It is a frightening thing. Now I just close my eyes (not the driver!!!) and accept that I have a visual problem, not a mental problem.
Viruses don't remain viable for very long outside the body. I have posted this link about the scientists who did the initial testing of how long viral DNA can be detected on different surfaces before. It is very useful...
This was in 1970 on a school trip. I was already ill but my disease has been progressive. I couldn't explain the neurological episodes I kept getting so I hid them but doing hill walking that week I had moments of where I could not move halfway up a mountain and I was forced to stop and "admire...
Jem, I have a similar problem so now I use notepad all the time, think is with windows 10. Before you go on line put the numbers with the letters next to it with a space between so it is easy to see. It will be much quicker to run your eye down the column than work it out.
I can't remember...
In the good old days when I was first assessed for disability benefits, the examining doctor turned to my husband before he asked me anything and said that patients tend to overestimate what they can do so he should correct me if I was not being accurate.
I have met many sick people since then...
The other problem with some tests is that we live with the problem all the time and automatically compensate so we look normal but are not.
As is typical I can't think of an example right this munute, but physically, I don't fail a Romberg test anymore. In this you stand not touching anything...
I did an online test for dementia, which I think is standard, where you have to remember a string of numbers. There are 10 attempts and you get a score for how well you do. I wasn't very good from the start, but by the 10th question I could not even remember the first number in the sequence...
I believe my husband and I are sensible reponders. We are at risk because of age and my ME so he only goes out now for one weekly shop and to the chemist for medication for myself and our grandson who is also at high risk. We know that the virus has not gone away so we will carry on taking...
In the days before CFS, it was felt that one of the reasons for the prejudice against ME was because of the number of doctors who became ill. Rather than it making the medical profession believe it was real it had the opposite effect. It was a form of denial, that only doctors who just weren't...
I expect many people got a phonecall on sunday night to be back at work the next day or they were out. Sadly the poorest paid have the least rights.
People on minimum wage are treated badly in a lot of cases and they have no resources, living week to week.
One of the links from the forum was...
This may not be relevant, but sometimes I think people look for big problems when small problems are important. Like when they were looking at harms from cigarette smoking. It was all about cancer and death rates, but when everyone smoked, my children would throw up walking home from the bingo...
That seems fair enough. Only quibble is that it does not make us "feel" worse, in fact exercise made me feel better. It makes the disease worse and leads to deterioration.
If only quibbles were all that was wrong with most articles!
The place to go for information is here
https://www.dryeyezone.com/
Rebecca Petris who runs this has become well respected for her advocacy. She believes that patients are a resource for medics and has helped develop modern strategies for treating dry eye. There is everything you need to know...
It doesn't seem right to impose social distancing on children who are at the stage of development when they are learning to interact. They talk about adults becoming wary of going outside after this experience and you wonder if 5 year olds who are taught to be afraid of standing near anyone will...
You can't take the number of excess deaths in 2018 and compare them with the number of excess deaths in 2020. The bare numbers do not take into account the precautions being taken this year to minimize infection with covid.
In 2018 we did not have any social distancing, pubs were packed, people...
This seems less than groundbreaking. Do oxygen deficient patients feel better when given oxygen or do dehydrated patients feel better when given water? I could keep graduate students going for years with these.
