It may not be relevant, but many of us with ME, even quite severe, longstanding ME, have the flu jab every year with no problems. I have also had the pneumonia jab at the same time too.
I have deteriorated badly both times I have had flu so I am worried about covid-19 interacting with my ME not...
It is the same thinking that let the CDC investigate an epidemic and then give criteria for the disease that said you had to wait 6 months before you could say anyone had it.
They say the more symptoms a person has the more likely it is they have a psychological disorder. I have a better theory. The more diseases a treatment claims to cure the more likely it is to be quackery.
DNRS is just another in a long line.
CPET testing shows that at least one section of people diagnosed with ME have a damaged aerobic respiration system. They may have fatigue the way other diseases do simply because the disease makes everything they do harder but in things like MS that fatigue is dealt with by a fully functioning...
It's not scientific, but my daughter, who has coeliac disease, asthma and a latex allergy, had the vaccine last Thursday. She is fine except for the usual feeling of a bruise at the site of the injection.
Most of the frontline staff at the hospital have now been vaccinated and she has not heard...
So when you add symptom 4 the first 3 stop existing and become imaginary.
Edited to add
Oliver Sachs said that 3 migraines a week were physical but more than that was psychological.
What that really means is that physicians can't distinguish real from psychological since migraines 1 to 3 must...
If ME had never been degraded down to the single symptom of fatigue there would not be the diagnostic confusion. CFS was invented by people called "lumpers" who saw fatigue as a spectrum where ME was just at the extreme end (as opposed to "splitters" who saw everything as a different disease)...
They keep associating long covid with ME because of fatigue but that is all wrong. If the BPS crew had not introduced CFS with its 6 months of fatigue before diagnosis it would be clearer to see the association.
ME never had a requirement for fatigue and certainly not 6 months of it before...
It was a long time ago, but I read about sickness behaviour being researched in biology. They were talking about the what caused the change in behaviour when animals became infected or wounded. Mammals often retreat to an isolated place for instance. Fatigue was postulated as a response to...
When ME was defined it was well understood that it was a symptom set that occurred after many epidemics in different times and places. People who had it recognised it in each other especially in the way it was so dependent on exertion.
A lot of the confusion came in because the emphasis was...
During the epidemics people who were active were more likely to get ME, for instance in a convent that was also a teacher training college, the pupils got ME, the nuns did not. In polio activity was associated with symptoms too.
It is possible that people with mild disease get LC because they...
I could easily be seen as perfectionist because I like the house neat and tidy and all jobs kept up to date. However this is because I have learnt from experience that doing things before they build up is the only way I can cope.
For instance, my wardrobe is well organised because I can only...
It is a "get out of jail" idea. People with depression are often unmotivated to do anything so they let things like housework go. ME people who keep themselves clean and have a tidy house have depression but also perfectionism which is why they do not fit the stereotype. Heads they win, tails we...
I was diagnosed as having a physical disease in 1984 when ME was considered a physical disease and research into it's physical causes was being done.
When all the psychological stuff was being brought in I was totally shocked. As a sort of defence, my family began a kind of game where everyone...
The idea that lots of symptoms means an illness is psychological is very widespread but a few moments thought shows that it is nonsense. Any apparent validity is because most diseases are diagnosed by a few main symptoms and the rest don't get much attention.
Think about undiagnosed diabetes...
It is just as likely, if not more that the increased in ME symptoms is due to the effort of fighting the infection rather than anything specific about the virus, though there may be a bit of both.
Another thing that should have been investigated in Me years ago if research had not been side...
I was given amantadine for my ME when it was first diagnosed in 1985. It did not help but then again my baby was 3 months old at the time :banghead: The only thing I have ever been prescribed for ME rather than to help a symptom.
It is an antiviral (antiherpes I think)and also used as at the...
