I'd never even heard of this technique
"To gain insights into the molecular disruptions in ME/CFS, we utilized an aptamer-based technology that quantified 4790 unique human proteins, allowing us to obtain the largest proteomics dataset yet available for this disease, detecting highly abundant...
Seems related to me check out references to signalling problem in Fluge & Mella's 2016 study
"According to this model, ME/CFS is caused by immune interference with an unidentified target, potentially a signaling factor, which ultimately causes metabolic dysfunction and induction of secondary...
Here are a couple of extracts
"In sum, the HPA axis dysfunctions in ME/CFS are not unlike the dysfunctions in prolonged critical illness. However, to our knowledge a comprehensive study of the pituitary pulsatile secretions of ACTH in ME/CFS patients—which proved revelatory in understanding...
The Astrazenica vaccine started to be used around 4th January [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55525542]
So lets say 11th January for general rollout.
14 days to develop immunity [25th January]
deterioration, requiring hospitalisation, usually occur 10 days after infection [infected 25th -...
I haven't been following this but I'm wondering if someone can explain what these words refer to "over-egged the 'physical' side with mast cell activation and whatnot"? Thanks
Thanks - Googled and I assume this is Chris Ponting's T-cell project - correct? https://www.actionforme.org.uk/research-and-campaigns/biomedical-research/research-we-fund/comparing-immune-cells/
I really haven't followed this @rvallee but I came across this on the web* - sort of illustrates the problems the EDS folks are up against. I.e. academic system needs funding (your research group doesn't bring in funding then it will be wound up) and the Government needs cheap, and popular...
Partial memory! Thank you; here's the quote I was thinking of:
"When I [ @Jonathan Edwards ] acted as MRC advisor this recent time around the GWAS project was the one thing that looked worthwhile, apart from maybe some actimetry studies."...
Thank you.
I've noticed that you support the genome-wide association study (GWAS) i.e. since it may be a way to understand the underlying cause of ME. Chris Ponting's has received NIHR, & MRC, funding for an ME GWAS.
I think you mentioned that there were some other interesting (NIHR?)...
I assume I'm missing something here but wouldn't it be better to try to understand what the underlying problem is and treat it? E.g. if there's a shed load of money, to investigate an apparent case of MUS - say in the US or a wealthy country where money is no object - and it turns out that MUS...
I think we might have better government if we had a PR system --- 44% of the vote should get you 44% of the seats not an 80 seat majority. As for the resulting pooling of MP seats; I've found a previous MP to be pretty useless so having a pool to choose from seems OK.
But yes people were happy...
Emphasises how much better the situation is in Australia, New Zealand ---. Still I think they have to go for 1 dose strategy --- it might be enough to reduce then number of hospital admissions --- whether people with only 1 dose will still be at risk of serious infection (requiring...
Thanks I found it and yes there are some important qualifications:
Vallance (El Pais):
"in practice it [efficacy] will not be as high [89% - trial data], although not as low as suggested [33% - from Israel]---"
Believe it or not they also quote "Matt Hancock" who acknowledge that they still...
Sadly I agree with everything you said and if I was better informed then I'd support it even more strongly.
My neighbour (a medical physicist) has pointed out to me that bangs for bucks the NHS delivers an incredible amount - an acquaintance has pointed out that compared to Slovenia the UK...
Interesting, I heard the interview with Patrick Vallance (originally broadscast on Sky - yesterday) earlier*, and he was talking about 89% efficacy after 10 days (single dose). Not sure where El País is getting it's info from.
I hoping a vulnerable family member (50s years old) is vaccinated...
Yea things can grab public attention and therefore the attention of politicians (& thereby funding) i.e. Long covid. Plus there's a concern about how big Long covid could be.
I don't know how to do double quotes but @strategist seem to hit the nail:
"How not to make progress: constant...
Pfizer (official trial) data is for symptomatic cases - Israeli data is for PCR positive (un-symptomatic?) cases - would be worrying if people are still infectious as well as PCR +ve though.
