UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

From @Simbindi 's post up thread, which quotes from the DWP consultation response document i believe. Which appears to say (assuming the word 'currently' is used in the normal way to mean 'at the present time'), that those of us who are, right now (Nov 2023) in that category - ie have been...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

thanks @MEMarge its not you thats confusing its the regime! so the work coach visit was *before* the fit note was issued? or in the interim between fit note being issued & LCWRA being granted. I'm trying to determine whether these WRA she was given, were given to her as a general UC claimant...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Sorry @MEMarge i'm confused. I dont understand anything about UC, dont know what a fit note has to do with the WCA? Are fit notes required for UC even once you been put in LCW/LCWRA groups? Under what rules/grouping you were at the job centre at that point? My initial question was what do the...

its a joke really.... by dint of being a claimant you are vulnerable to some degree, which claimant is not vulnerable?

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

In view of all this, i wonder how keen they will be to reassess me (supposedly due in feb but been deferred the last 3 times). Does 'currently' mean literally now, in november 2023... ie does it mean that my scheduled reassessment in 2024 wont happen... or does 'currently' mean at the time the...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

yes its interesting because they started moving people off Incapacity Benefit in approx 2010/11? I was moved over to ESA in 2013, but there are still people on IB even now - still not moved over more than a decade later, so.... ??? still plenty of people on DLA too, still not moved to PIP.

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

I cant understand what them stopping reassessments for people already in LCWRA/SG means. It appears to be written as if it's being done to enable people to engage with the new incentives to try working/get support to do so without the threat of being reassessed/losing benefits. But what if you...

its got nothing to do with whther they define as physical or not, it will apply mostly to people who will likely commit suicide if they are forced into it, or would be likely to harm someone. Its about whether they deem it serious enough. I imagine it will cover conditions such as paranoid...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

from Autumn statement live updates (benefitsandwork.co.uk) There isnt an emoji for the depth of despair i am in right now. There is no way for me to stay in the LCWRA or SG at next assessment after this is imposed. You only need 15 points to qualify for the LCW group, i score 96 across the rest...

it certainly wont be included - remember the NHS website considers the main ME/CFS symptom to be "extreme tiredness". Considering most of the working population consider themselves to be extremely tired every day, they certainly will not view it as a risk to us to do more than we are capable.

So as far as they're concerned nobody is unable to work. I saw somewhere there'd be exemptions for people having cancer treatment. But i know several people who happily kept working through long months of chemo, just had the day after their chemo off but otherwise carried on pretty much as...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2023 (including government plans to scrap the work capability assessment)

Well sorry but its beyond poor, its abysmal. It sounds like the person writing it has no idea of the difficulties or the benefits system. ITs shocking. The issue is that without the WCA we'll all be subject to untrained work coaches to decide what work or work related activity we have to do...

Opinions on payments to participants in research

yes that would be a major concern, and a waste of funds.... although if it was a study which needed, for example, participants to have a test which was very painful or would take a long recovery time, in comparison to the burden of the problem being researched - & therefore the cost to potential...
