PACE trial TSC and TMG minutes released

This study is interesting, and so are the responses by Wessely and Sharpe. https://www.amjmed.com/article/S0002-9343(99)80332-5/pdf

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Yes, this is something I have long argued: merely by taking patients from the clinics, they were skewing the sample. Those clinics were set up to provide CBT-GET. The sample ignored people like me who knew there is no treatment.

A general thread on the PACE trial!

It's good that Carol is raising the issues about PACE, but the data have never been lost. No one disputes the raw data are locked securely in filing cabinets in a QMUL-operated building at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. The question raised by my FOIA request is whether QMUL has the means to...

It is really good, Graham. Thanks, and well done.

PACE trial TSC and TMG minutes released

I know the minutes for the first couple of meetings were drafted by Sharpe. It's possible he did them all, though it's not publically (sic) known. He uses 'equipoise' in his (false and misleading) COI statement.

Action for ME have "reworked our treatment and symptom management page" and "updated our pages on GET and CBT"

It says on the page re CBT-GET 'It’s very important to note that there is no published research into the effectiveness of GET and/or CBT for those who are severely affected by M.E.' FINE wasn't explicitly CBT-GET but 'home delivered pragmatic rehabilitation—a programme of gradually increasing...

April 2018 Minutes of the CMRC meeting and latest news

I think there should be elections. AfME and MEA should organize these elections but should have no other role in selecting the patient reps.

April 2018 Minutes of the CMRC meeting and latest news

My understanding is that membership of the PAG for MEGA was confidential. I do know some quit that group. Again as far as I understand, the remnants of the PAG formed the patient representatives to the CMRC. I don't know whether that's supposed to be confidential or not. In any case the CMRC...

April 2018 Minutes of the CMRC meeting and latest news

I presume Christine Laennac and Jane Whittaker are the patient representatives. I presume also that Jane Whittaker is the one who liked 'Developing Magic: NLP Training' (albeit in 2011) (see attached). Isn't it time patient representatives were chosen by... patients? Shouldn't they be elected...

Correspondence from the DWP for 2005

Yes, that's how they came. There is a bit missing. I could go back and ask for a better copy, but it doesn't look to me as though there is anythng important missing. Next time I get some stuff, I'll ask them if they would try to do a better job.

Last from DWP. This is the briefing from AfME.

Correspondence from the DWP for 2005

I have this week received these from the DWP. I've had a quick look through. The two things that strike me are that they confirm Aylward continued on the TSC when he left the DWP, despite his myriad COIs, and a briefing from AfME which is of some interest. I'll get more when I can. I'm not...

The Canary: The truth about NHS research funding that should shame the government

Great work by all involved. Worth pointing out a couple of things in the government response: First, it doesn't specify 'biomedical', so presumably it includes all research including eg Crawley's work on 'Chronic Fatigue'. Second, the total includes spending by charities etc, so government...

A unifying theory for cognitive abnormalities in functional neurological disorders, Fibromyalgia and CFS (2018), Mark J Edwards et al.

I like this line: Functional cognitive disorder (FCD) describes cognitive dysfunction in the absence of an organic cause But of course they're not saying it's all in our minds. And for double top: absence of evidence...
