Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

I think I agree. Having experience of "fatigue" as a symptom of both Hashimoto 's and anaemia, they feel rather different to ME. Of all the symptoms of PEM and pushing beyond the boundaries, "fatigue" would be quite far down the list.

ME mentioned in Sunday Times (UK) article about BBC presenter Kirsty Young's fibromyalgia

Unfortunately, there are ME patients who also embrace the psychological, post traumatic, repressed memory schtick. Now, please don't think I am mocking those who have suffered past traumas here. Not at all. When I first "met" many of you guys, it was after my total disgust at a thread on one...

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for MuScle Disease (ACTMuS): Protocol for a two-arm randomised controlled trial of a brief guided self-help ACT prog

Now, I've thought about it some more what did this guy mean by: My dogs couldn't speak any human language, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't understand it. Try saying the word "crisp" in my house and see what happens! The Invisible Dog understands a fairly wide range of words, many...

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for MuScle Disease (ACTMuS): Protocol for a two-arm randomised controlled trial of a brief guided self-help ACT prog

Really? What an ignorant fool! When my father died his dog became very, very depressed. He wouldn't eat, wouldn't interact and be was normally a really friendly, happy go lucky dog. My own first dog became very, very ill with a mystery condition and had to be hospitalised. Luckily it was at...

BMJ: Pressure grows on Lancet to review “flawed” PACE trial

i agree. For a brief summary we probably have plenty of clear material. The problem is not that we don't have enough to criticize, it's knowing which points to include when. However, this is such a clear example of introduced bias. How can it be possible for them to be so ignorant of human...

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for MuScle Disease (ACTMuS): Protocol for a two-arm randomised controlled trial of a brief guided self-help ACT prog

This is exactly why I believe so much of this stuff is inherently very dangerous. The patient is already struggling with a health issue, be it "physical" or "mental" and the therapist barges in and undermines their self belief and their coping strategies. All done without necessarily having the...

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for MuScle Disease (ACTMuS): Protocol for a two-arm randomised controlled trial of a brief guided self-help ACT prog

And we're back to correlation does not equal causation. For example: i started to experience some very low, very bleak moods. It was extremely unpleasant and I had no idea why. I would be happily minding my own business and suddenly my mood would plummet like a stone down a very deep well. So...

New Scientist: Probiotics are mostly useless and can actually hurt you

Definitely. Anything fermented is out. Also other yeasty things like marmite. Shame, cause I love it!

New Scientist: Probiotics are mostly useless and can actually hurt you

I can have yoghurt, but mostly don't bother with it. Not sure I've ever had the "good" or "live" stuff. kefir - not a chance in hell I would even try it. Fermented stuff does extremely evil things to my insides.

New Scientist: Probiotics are mostly useless and can actually hurt you

I have completely given up on probiotics. I always end up with a really bad tummy ache.

Crowdfund appeal to educate people with a duty of care towards ME patients

If I remember correctly there were posts about Foggy Doggy on the MEA facebook page - people.got in touch offering to "host" him and there were updates in his travels. There might have been a write up in ME Essential the MEA member magazine. So connections to both IiME & MEA, I think.

Crowdfund appeal to educate people with a duty of care towards ME patients

Perhaps we could invite Sally to join and discuss it with us? How does she plan to involve/engage with those who would typically "support" an ME patient. What literature will they be using? I can see the benefit. Done well, this could make a real difference.

Person Centred Approaches to Long Term Condition Management

My niece is in her mid 20's and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was a toddler. She is a very active person with a busy lifestyle and would love an insulin pump. The NHS won't supply one because she manages her condition too well. She can't afford one - the pump itself is over £1k...

BMJ: Pressure grows on Lancet to review “flawed” PACE trial

I may be wrong here so feel free to correct. I don't think they did apply the London criteria. They applied their own modified version of the London criteria and simply continued to call it the London criteria. If memory serves Ellen Goudsmit was one of the authors of the London criteria and...

The Times reports ‘GPs give rest cure its marching orders’.

From @Daisybell 's quote Well, I can tell you right now from experience, exercise is absolutely no good when you have an undiagnosed or under medicated thyroid condition, or if you are anaemic...... It will not help and you will most certainly feel worse. I am sure there are lots of other...

Action for ME: The PACE trial and behavioural treatments for M.E. [position statement]

Dear @Action for M.E. I would like to point out that the results from PACE made it very clear that GET and/or PACE style CBT do not work. Even when you use the widest possible criteria, that is guaranteed to include patients who do not have ME and who may even benefit from gentle exercise...

BMJ: Pressure grows on Lancet to review “flawed” PACE trial

My old science teacher would have loved you! A long time ago, when I was a little girl a stroppy teen, science experiments had to be written up in a certain way and you had to show your raw data, plus you had to list your assumptions, then you wrote up your conclusion. If your assumption was...
