The micro-clot finding in Long Covid — implications for the possible aetiology of ME/CFS

Was the saline given to you in a drip? I always assumed that was done to increase blood volume, not make people pee, but then I suppose the kidneys excrete the extra after a while. I read this link quite some time ago, but it has been deleted from its original home and is only available on the...

Comedians could be prescribed on NHS to help patients struggling with trauma: Bristol Uni

If I had been recently traumatised and I was told to go and see a comedian I would feel that my experiences were being made fun of and were not being taken seriously.

The complex syndrome of functional neurological disorder, 2022, Edwards et al

I'm glad I was never diagnosed with FND when I had serious gait problems. Luckily for me my real problem was discovered by accident as a result of having a CT scan for a possible stroke (I hadn't had a stroke.). It turned out I had NPH - Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Without the accident of the...

Neural correlates of the attentional bias towards pain-related faces in fibromyalgia patients: An ERP study using a dot-probe task, 2022, Mercardo

For info on what's involved in the "dot-probe" stuff : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dot-probe_paradigm Edit : It's just occurred to me that if I was presented with a neutral face and a face of someone apparently in pain, I would ignore the neutral face and look more at the face with "more...

Study protocol ... phase III trial ... of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) in patients with fibromyalgia (INNOVA study), 2022, Younger, Luciano et al

Quite a few people with hypothyroidism swear by LDN, and have said that it helps reduce pain and symptom severity. I've wondered a few times about trying it, but don't know how to get hold of it. I know it can be done - some people get it via a doctor in Glasgow (I think), but that's all I know...

UK - NHS England online tool and clinics for long Covid.

I wonder what evidence Dr Burns has for his pronouncements other than wishful thinking? I realise that many people do recover. But for those who don't I wouldn't be surprised if Dr Burns is going to say the problem is all in the head. A very big problem for everyone who ever gets ill with a...

Mine does too. But annoyingly it never tells me why any particular page is blocked.

Use of Dietary Supplements and Perceived Knowledge among Adults Living with Fibromyalgia in Norway: A Cross-Sectional Study, 2022, Kvael et al

If people taking dietary supplements had high education then it suggests that they may have higher levels of disposable income than people with poor education. If money is particularly tight then people are surely much less likely to consider spending money on dietary supplements.

Covid-19: An urgent call for global “vaccines-plus” action , 2021, Greenhalgh et al

I thought that reusing existing treatments that were known about already - their dangers, side effects, and what they actually did in the body - was an idea that a few people came up with. But all that seemed to create was hysteria. I never did find out whether hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin...

Covid-19: An urgent call for global “vaccines-plus” action , 2021, Greenhalgh et al

My idea of a good treatment for Covid would be one that could be bought over the counter ready to be used if someone got sick and would shorten the course of the disease if taken right at the start. Such a treatment would reduce the number of people ending up in hospital, would reduce the length...

Covid-19: An urgent call for global “vaccines-plus” action , 2021, Greenhalgh et al

I'm not familiar with anything that really helps much with flu or a bad cold other than paracetamol or ibuprofen. I think most products for such conditions are placebo. My husband bought one product intended for my use, offered by a local pharmacy, to treat my dry cough and the active ingredient...

Covid-19: An urgent call for global “vaccines-plus” action , 2021, Greenhalgh et al

I haven't seen any mention of treatments for ordinary people who get sick which can be prescribed by GPs or can be bought from pharmacies. All I see are repeated and repetitive articles about ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine that engender lots of hysteria from lots of sources.

Covid-19: An urgent call for global “vaccines-plus” action , 2021, Greenhalgh et al

I wish that scientists had researched how to reduce the severity of Covid in people of all ages and with underlying health conditions, rather than relying on vaccines alone.

Nope, it definitely says per 1000 on the bottom row - I thought it was unusual when I read it. Of course it could be a typo:

An Association of Pathogens and Biofilms with Alzheimer’s Disease, 2021

There is a "syphilis epidemic" in England according to government figures - and numbers do appear to be rising rapidly. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tracking-the-syphilis-epidemic-in-england In 2010 there were 1617 cases diagnosed which is a rate of 2.9 per 1000. In 2019 there...

Article Express: ‘I lost half my blood’: Woman recalls diagnosis of ‘mystery illness’ - it affects millions

@Forbin Your link to "simple wikipedia" doesn't work for me. Another factor in the effects of exsanguination is how fast the patient loses blood. If they have a chronic bleed it can drag things out for a very long time - literally years. This is one of the factors in my own ill health.
