    Singing and gargling

I don’t know the answers to your questions, but one thing I do know is that singing exhausts me. I can’t do it much anymore. My instinctive reaction is that this sounds like nonsense....:( The vocal folds use the recurrent laryngeal nerves which are branches of the vagus - so yes, anything that...

NZ - Complex Chronic Illness Support - Towards Wellness course

Are you sure? I thought that CCIS ran the courses but brought in people to talk in some of the sessions - and I expect they pay them for their time. I’ve steered well clear - luckily my doctor hasn’t suggested I take this course. If I went, there would be no way I’d be able to keep my opinions...

NSAIDS (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), e.g. Ibuprofen, Aspirin

I think ibuprofen is somewhat helpful for me, but I don’t take it regularly. If my symptoms are exacerbated then it’s what I turn to.

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

I’m hoping these two new positions are for JE and CS. Bothbeing physicians with an interest rather than physicians who see patients. That would be very good news...

Remission when ill with other infections?

I don’t feel any better if I have an infection. I feel worse. Antibiotics only treat the bacterial infection, they don’t impact on my ME symptoms... The only time I was improved temporarily was when I was hyperthyroid - and not too hyperthyroid.... going hypo then crashed me big time. This year...

News from Aotearoa/New Zealand and the Pacific Islands

Hmmmm..... thanks for the update Hutan! I find it interesting that Ros, who attends most of the conferences around the world - IIME etc - still expresses such an odd mixture of facts and unsubstantiated beliefs. If I don’t see her occasionally I can’t get my prescription for LDN - which seems...

USA: National Institutes of Health (NIH) intramural ME/CFS study

I do wonder if their inclusion criteria are so strict that they are going to end up with a sample that is actually not representative..... Most of us have other comorbidities and what if that is actually an important piece of the jigsaw? By studying only people who don’t, might they not end up...

Your OMF gift tripled this week!

I do think that every charity has an obligation to be totally transparent about how money is spent. Most grants specify how the money must be expended and also require detailed accountabilities. Donations don’t attract this level of scrutiny so they are in many ways preferable for organizations...

UK CMRC 2018 Conference - Rachel Hunter (health economist)

It might be interesting to look at the results from simply asking people who have stopped work long-term due to ill health some questions.... If you could ask in local papers, you should get a spread of respondents? Then perhaps you could look at age of ‘retirement’ and the financial burden for...
