Correction: CFS/ME is different in children compared to in adults: a study of UK and Dutch clinical cohorts. 2019

Given EC conflates chronic fatigue and PVF with ME it is little wonder that children are not ill as long as adults. There is also the statistical gem , if I can remember correctly, that in paediatrics 80% recover naturally and 80% recover as a result of specialist input. ( I could be wrong...

Action for ME: GP home visits under threat

After months of cajoling my aunt got a home visit from her GP last year. She was basically told that there was nothing the GP could do ( and the GP did not have a clue, nor had they tried to do background research). It left her dejected and slightly bitter ( she is not a bitter person). It was...

The unifying diagnostic construct of bodily distress syndrome (BDS) was confirmed in the general population, 2019, Fink et al

Sadly i feel that this may only feed into the confusion with BDD. It is far from harmless.

Berberine protects against diabetic kidney disease via promoting PGC‐1α‐regulated mitochondrial energy homeostasis, 2019, Qin et al

Berberine is expensive - recently recommended a berberine and grapefruit supplement by nutritional therapist to deal with fat digestion and bile issues. Can't find any cheaper than £65/ tub or smaller tubs.

Review: An Association of Serotonin with Pain Disorders and Its Modulation by Estrogens, 2019, Paredes et al

I think it's not the absolute but relative levels that are important. The ratios between eg progesterone and estrogen rather than absolute levels seem to be important in pre menopausal women.

The longitudinal effects of seated isometric yoga on blood biomarkers, autonomic functions, & psychological parameters of [PwCFS], 2019, Oka et al

If anyone can find the PROMS scale from the adolescent research to compare with CFQ it may be worth doing. It may flag up if there is a difference when involving those with the illness when defining a questionnaire/ scale ( or not)

Inhibition of Upf2-Dependent Nonsense-Mediated Decay Leads to Behavioral and Neurophysiological Abnormalities by Activating the Immune Response

Why can't we accept that people are not all the same? Isn't cyclophosphamide pretty risky in itself?

Open letter to Dr Peter Fisher, Liverpool University, about a research survey on emotional distress and CFS. 2019

Wood....trees... Life seems to gave been boiled down into parametric boxes to be ticked. In the process of dissection the importance and coherence of the whole is lost. This reminds me of a scene some ten years ago in a primary school playground. There was a group of childminders comparing...

Developing and pretesting a new patient reported outcome measure for paediatric CFS/ME: cognitive interviews with children, 2019, Crawley et al

I find this sad. That research has been done for years with no patient informed context. That so little has been appreciated re effects of this illness, as demonstrated by the many changes throughout the process. Any clinician who listens to patients would have had a handle on most of the...

London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine - LSHTM 120 keynote lecture: Alumni on the frontline of innovation 2019

I thought the Havana incident had subsequently found to be related to pesticide use against Zika virus? The place had been doused with 5 times the normal amount to be on the safe side? Perhaps I am confused with something else.
