    Pill / tablet cutter

I use a scalpel. Something like this which comes with spare blades. The blades have never gone rusty and they last for absolutely ages. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blades-Non-Slip-Scalpel-Carving-Decorated/dp/B08MW135N5/ref=sr_1_2 I have bought pill cutters in the past, and I do keep one in...

    Doctor's letters - personality evaluations

I've never been described as lovely. Only ever pleasant or delightful. I hate the practice of doctors recording how they feel about me. I bought a copy of my GP medical records about 10 years ago, and some of the ones made available to me were from decades ago. When I was in my teens (1970s) a...

    Lightweight portable/folding seat/stool

It seems a bit odd that the weight of the stools (in the first link) hasn't been given. It would be useful to know. But I like the look of them. Edit : There are quite a few references in the reviews to them collapsing, or not locking into place though. So, perhaps not.

Protocol Feasibility randomised controlled trial of online group Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Functional Cognitive Disorder (ACT4FCD) 2023 Poole et al

Some of these conditions can be treated and possibly cured. Since that is the case how could any of the conditions like that be classified as "Functional". If someone has asthma - treat them. If someone is anaemic - treat them. If someone has glaucoma - treat them... The consequences of not...

Reddit - Interesting posts on Reddit, including what some doctors say about ME/CFS

As a non-reddit user, and only occasional reddit reader, I'd like to know what "old.reddit.com" is. There are no dates on reddit threads that I've read, so I can't figure out how old.reddit.com is populated. Note that as a non user of reddit there are a lot of thing about reddit I don't like or...

Depressive symptoms are highly prevalent and associated with fatigue and pain catastrophizing in [HSD/hEDS]: a cross-sectional study, 2025, Fletcher+

sarcasm on So, people in pain aren't really in pain, they are catasrophising??? But of course, "joint injury" isn't painful. sarcasm off I think telling someone (or insinuating) they are catastrophising when they are in pain just lets patients know they are not believed, are unlikely to be...

    E-readers (Kindle, etc.)

If my kindle is representative... It's 9 years old and still works. It was a present for Christmas 2016. I have about 650 books on it now. The main problem I have with it is that charging it is "a bit dodgy". It was plugged into a charging cable one day, and I forgot. I tripped over the cable...

For info on Disulfiram. Disulfiram : link to the wikipedia page Disulfiram : link to the BNF page According to the wiki article above, Disulfiram is used to try and stop alcoholics and heavy drinkers from drinking alcohol. One of the main ways to achieve this apparently is for the drug to...

rollingout article "Why chronic fatigue is mistaken for depression: The consequences of misdiagnosis for an invisible illness"

I think depression is a result of many illnesses, both before and after diagnosis. Fix the underlying condition and the depression might disappear without further treatment. But the medical profession seems to treat depression as a disease in its own right and rarely treats it as anything else...

China to access NHS medical records of 500,000 patients

If you look into pseudo-anonymisation vs anonymisation it might answer your question. I remember when the first major project involving lots of health data (care.data 2013 - 2016) became known it was quickly realised that pseudonymous data could have the anonymising reversed if the recipient of...

Acute serum protein biomarker profile and prevalence of persistent [...] neuropsychiatric symptoms in [SARS-CoV-2+] [...], 2025, Niekerk et al

Is it just me and I'm not understanding? Does that sequence of words actually make sense? What is the "acute" referring to? And how can serum protein be "acute". Why do researchers - particularly the ones keen on finding psychiatric problems - never test for anemia after illness? Every major...

BBC: Plan for GPs to keep millions out of hospital

Yes, I'm amazed too. Where I live the only way of getting earwax removed is to pay for it privately, the NHS won't help.

BBC: Plan for GPs to keep millions out of hospital

My prediction... This will result in some patients seeing doctors with symptoms that the doctor can't identify the cause of. The patient will continue to get worse while their symptoms continue to be dismissed. And cancer in its early stages will end up as advanced cancer because the GP will...

Iron dysregulation and inflammatory stress erythropoiesis associates with long-term outcome of COVID-19, 2024, Hanson et al

Low-Dose Naltrexone restored TRPM3 ion channel function in Natural Killer cells from long COVID patients, 2025, Martini et al

Given the dosages used in the UK I was wondering about testing with doses of 5mg, 8mg, 10 mg, 15mg, etc might be worth doing. The huge leap in dose from the smallest doses straight up to 50mg means that benefits might be missed at the lower doses.
