Peter White (ed.) 2005, Biopsychosocial Medicine: An integrated approach to understanding illness

The comments above on the face of it might convince someone who never questions an authoritative statement but it is a clearly disingenuous remark. First of all, psychiatry* was happy to include General Paresis of the Insane, Ulcers and probably many other illnesses that are now treatable. So...

    Survey:Improving NICE guidance

I'm curious to know if anyone has an opinion on who is likely to see this survey and who other than some people here is likely to fill it out. In other words, it would be good if some (by that I mean a lot) people with common sense and some basic integrity see it and give their thoughts.* *I...

    PACE trial data

https://vivli.org/why-share-your-clinical-research-data/ • Funders are increasingly mandating data sharing. The Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust and many others are requiring that Individual Patient-Level Data from research they fund is shared. In addition, the updated NIH Data Sharing Policy...

BPS attempts at psychologizing Long Covid

It would seem the people at RVIM doing this need some close oversight. This is a garbage in garbage out study of questionnaire's meant to give the researchers what they want. How comforting for them when the results come in. High Five's all around. They got what they came for. And wasted a...

    News from Canada

Canada has Norman Doige. Who is seen as a leader in the field. See: https://www.normandoidge.com/ Because the subject is the brain and neuroplasticity there can be a lot of intersection with mind. I read his books decades ago and so don't remember them much. But I think some of this can...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

He says 'synthesis' I say interpretation. And interpretation by the least qualified due to a plethora of preconceptions.

BPS attempts at psychologizing Long Covid

Another day . . . another stupid piece of inane 'I think therefore it's true'. Just because you have a thought about something doesn't make that something yield to your thought process. The problem I'm having with all this is that the stupidity of it all is grade-school level obvious. It is a...

“I’m So Tired”: Fatigue as a Persistent Physical Symptom among Working People Experiencing Exhaustion Disorder, 2021, Broddadóttir et al

While perusing another thread here I linked to one of the tweets posted there. As I followed various threads I came upon this (which I think is spot on): By Darren Brown: @darrenabrown Tired: A term that describes a feeling of reduced energy expected following an amount of activity. Being...

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for chronic fatigue and CFS: outcomes from a specialist clinic in the UK (2020) Adamson, Wessely, Chalder

What is meant by this? I found this: "Naturalistic study: A type of study in which the researcher very carefully observes and records some behavior or phenomenon, sometimes over a prolonged period, in its natural setting while interfering as little as possible with the subjects or phenomena...

What we're not being told about ME - UnHerd (Tom Chivers)

I'm not exactly a ray of sunshine but I do think there might be a small opportunity with regard to people who know nothing about life with ME to understand better. There are many falling ill as we know with long-covid and experiencing long-term symptoms that are so similar to ME. I have spoken...

Discernment of Mediator and Outcome Measurement in the PACE trial, Chalder,Goldsmith et al, 2021

It would be good if we could see the full paper to discover what they deem to be as relevant mediators and outcomes.

Discernment of Mediator and Outcome Measurement in the PACE trial, Chalder,Goldsmith et al, 2021

I suspect this being psychodramaology that all of the concepts / constructs are not able to be properly scientifically validated and rely solely on the people who deem themselves qualified (and with interests now vested) on creating and validating (through observation) that these are all true.

Medically unexplained symptoms: assessment and management (2021) Mujtaba Husain and Trudie Chalder

I'm struck by the comment of 'broad eligibility criteria' We have broad eligibility criteria to ensure we do not exclude people from getting help. It occurs to me that we hit a wall with this because it's backwards. It is explicit in stating that as many as possible be considered and...

Discernment of Mediator and Outcome Measurement in the PACE trial, Chalder,Goldsmith et al, 2021

Since this is about the observer and the observed -- shouldn't the observer also be part of the study and go through the same process of having their distinct mediators and outcomes assessed in order to better understand their effect on interpreting their observations?

    New Light Aware Card

Interesting. They even have a link to a blurb on how artificial lighting affects the wider environment. Now if some group would clue up and form regarding noise pollution. That would be great. This too is a health issue.
