Criticisms of DecodeME in the media - and responses to the criticisms

Didn't see it. Who did they interview? Why would a psychologist be commenting on a genetics study? Apart from perhaps to note the psychological benefit which will likely result due to decent evidence in a rigorous, quality study which helps to explain their patients' suffering. This will be...

    DecodeME in the media

It's refreshing to see decent reporting and clearly written articles. It's also interesting to see almost all articles are using the word disease. I've been pondering this in relation to our upcoming guideline. I'm wondering if this study tips the evidence over to using the d word or is...

Criticisms of DecodeME in the media - and responses to the criticisms

Thanks for your positive reflections. Really helpful. Are there other teams with similar top notch credentials and commitment to quality work as Ponting's who would be in a position to replicate. Or is it perhaps more likely that a different team would perhaps focus on one or more parts? Could...

Criticisms of DecodeME in the media - and responses to the criticisms

Alan Carson is strikingly dour about this. Sticks out like a sore or should I say sour thumb

UK Government Delivery Plan for ME/CFS, published 22nd July 2025

The patients I see and follow up longer term who improve objectively are ones trying longer term antimicrobials. Not seeing those listed in the suggestions to try.

Heightened protective decision-making related to physical, but not cognitive, effort in individuals with fibromyalgia, 2025, Herman et al

Hi @Sean There are a few odd balls with odd ideas. In relation to chronic pain and Fibromyalgia it's been about pain management for a long time, eg pacing etc in the absence of effective medications or treatments. The usual suspects tried to influence IAPT re chronic pain and fatigue which...

Heightened protective decision-making related to physical, but not cognitive, effort in individuals with fibromyalgia, 2025, Herman et al

"Despite individualizing task difficulty to each participant’s unique capacity, those with fibromyalgia required higher incentives to engage in the physical effort task (treadmill walking), especially at higher effort intensities (OR=1.077, 95%CI [1.003, 1.156]), but showed no differences in the...

The association between Autism Spectrum Disorder and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. A Care Plan Perspective, 2025, Nida Khubaib

".... that shares clinical features with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)," And so do lots of things... Being autistic and having ME can make it much harder to manage. Therefore, more pwME and ASC likely to seek support or be in crisis situations. Perhaps there is a higher incidence of pwME...

UK ME Association 2025: Prognosis, Permanency and Quality of Life in ME/CFS

"Is it true that psychological status at onset relates to prognosis?" I think we have no data here whatsoever. It's possible that psychological status as in poor psychological status is likely to make managing ME symptoms more challenging. But that's an assumption, not based on evidence. The...

Feasibility trial of a self-help digital intervention for functional cognitive disorder, 2025, Cabreira, Stone, Carson et al

Straightforward to assess many aspects of cognitive functioning using objective neuropsychological testing. Seems lazy to not assess pre and post as a primary outcome All Q outcome measures. Same old, same old.

UK: Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) articles, blogs and discussion

Thanks for sharing I'd missed that update. I'm wondering is @dave30th has seen this too? I shall mention to Mike Scott when I speak with him next. Not sure who really takes this seriously nowadays. IAPT (rebranded as Talking Therapies) have largely teamed up with ME and chronic pian...

Patients with severe ME/CFS need hope and expert multidisciplinary care, 2025, Miller et al

I am sure that an organisations such as the National Audit Office could be looking at this. My colleague Mike Scott tried re IAPT. Perhaps the message is getting through - IAPT's budget has been cut by 20% in current NHS shake up.
