I have been really shocked by Myhill's stance on covid. I had previously been a patient of hers (starting over a decade ago) and am aware of various problems with her approach to things, but seeing what she has said and recommended during this time just has me at a loss. It's unfortunate...
Why would you state that you are assuming some form of exercise will help patients when your whole study is designed in order to provoke symptoms in them via exercise?
There is no way I would have taken part in this study at any level of illness (am now severe, have been mild and different...
When I was trying to give fingerprick samples it just started hurting so much that I now always refuse them as my fingers are too sensitive and painful. A blood draw is much easier and less painful if a suitable site to draw it from can be found; I also don't see why they can't use paediatric...
Nothing wrong with dropping out of college! Point taken about the inevitable comparison.
I hope this works out for them and that there is some kind of progress or knowledge to be gained here.
Is there any hope, particularly with Long Covid, of getting an actual zillionaire on board? For example I don't see why whoever controls the Gates research money wouldn't be interested at this point. This is clearly affecting millions of people worldwide and there is an increasingly well-known...
Does it "really work" for any patients, though? Going for a series of walks? Mixes up cause and effect.
Overall I agree with your point about how a grift might get started, but going for a series of walks and being given handouts "really works" for what patient subset? It strains credulity, or...
I have not seen evidence of good faith belief that these treatments work among such proponents, however. All of the behaviour around research, rewriting history, messing with definitions, and treatments of patient concerns suggests a grift.
There are perhaps some who now really believe in this...
What do people make of the parallel between covid/long covid denial and minimization and the tobacco lobby? Didn't they get a bunch of "scientists" and doctors to say smoking was safe and NBD? Possibly even good for you in some way? It took a long time of growing evidence that it was unsafe and...
I agree with this. NHS England generally have been quite bad throughout the pandemic anyway, and SW has been carrying on behind the scenes without any semblance of transparency whatsoever.
Is there any way to get details or confirmation of what is actually being taught? Learning something wrong is often worse than not learning anything at all. The NICE Guidelines now existing is reassuring, but isn't it up to the medical schools how it's all framed?
