I completely agree - but what the hell is wrong with *everyone*? People *love* this narrative about illness - about their own illnesses, even. Someone has managed to sell people on the idea that this validates their trauma. How can we combat this? I see it creeping into conversations, everyday...
Given that PEM is characteristic of ME, figuring out the root cause of PEM is likely to figure out a large part of the story of the "root cause" of ME, and give clues of where to look for treatments.
I agree. At first I thought he must be joking and having a dig at SW, but the context makes it clear he isn't joking at all. Hard to take him seriously after reading that, and I found it concerning; I don't think three years is relevant at all unless he has repudiated this kind of thinking entirely.
Apparently there was a problem extracting my DNA so they are sending another kit. I am glad they are checking!
Gah I hope it works the next time. I was worried I overfilled the tube.
I was really upset to see this morning that this has not been funded. :( There are little to no good quality studies being funded that I know of (?). Do people think this study will be funded to be done by someone else? I am not familiar with what normally happens - could anyone shed any light...
This may come off the wrong way and I mean absolutely no harm or snark by it, but it's a bit distressing that you'd think Derek Draper was the only person who was so ill following covid? I remember seeing a piece which said he was the sickest covid patient in the country (who wasn't dead?) or...
I find his use of twitter kind of strange generally but I thought the intended audience was the patients so maybe the interactions had their uses. This? Doesn't inspire confidence.
Who is looking around on twitter for a team to take in, give money to, and stake their reputation on?
I don't really understand this. Wouldn't the kinds of people SW is usually trying to impress and cosy up to be appalled by or trying to distance themselves from these kinds of comments? Who is the intended audience for these comments?
I tried to sign up to try this. I didn't realize it asks for your phone number - yikes? I didn't complete the process after that and now I'm worried. Any thoughts? Are people worried about this? x
"As an adult aged 18-30, your risk of long COVID is low: after natural infection in unvaccinated people, around 1 in 100 people aged 18-30 still have some symptoms (most commonly tiredness and loss of smell) after 8-12 weeks."
Is there a reference for this? Seems to be completely wrong as a claim.
Thanks for relating your experience of the Cleveland Clinic to us. I am glad someone "believed" you, but was a little worried about the content of the session as some other members (and you yourself) have expressed. Additionally this point jumped out at me:
"Most people who adhere to his...
I am really glad this is getting a WaPo editorial. But reading stuff like this really makes we wonder what people think "the pandemic" was if this wasn't part of it? This is the pandemic, not a separate pandemic "after" or separate from the main event, which is still ongoing.
