Multidimensional Characterization of Long COVID Fatigue, 2025, Maas et al.

Yet again the unwarranted step from association to causation to treatment.

How should biological researchers present their results about ME/CFS to the media - discussion thread.

Perhaps one way to argue is to see if the anxiety related genes also turn up in the genetic predisposition for other physical diseases.

Gene discovery and biological insights into anxiety disorders from a large-scale multi-ancestry genome-wide association study, 2025, Friligkou et al

The wikipedia article on pleiotropy may help. I've skimmed it, it looks interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiotropy

How should biological researchers present their results about ME/CFS to the media - discussion thread.

I'm not sure I follow the logic of this. I would not expect there to be a single gene found that on its own causes ME/CFS. I thought the point was to look for multiple genes that indicate particular pathways are affected. So if genes A to H are implicated in ME/CFS, and genes D and K to S are...

    Thyroid, autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto's

She said the test was done in a small pilot study in Holland, I think. She also made it clear that she's not claiming this is a cure for ME, just that it worked for her. Given this was in 2003, her diagnosis may have been simply based on exhaustion, brain fog and significantly reduced capacity...

    Thyroid, autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto's

For those who don't want to watch the video, the answer is she had a urine test that showed what blood tests hadn't shown, that her thyroid wasn't working properly. Her GP prescribed thyroxine. She says after just 2 hours of taking her first dose of thyroxine, her exhaustion just 'rolled away'.

Warnings against dangerous Miracle Mineral Solution (bleach, chlorine dioxide)

I agree. I think Myhill is already off the doctors' register, and now practises as a naturopath. In any case she should be told to stop using it.

Importance of avoidance and endurance in post-COVID syndrome Can dysfunctional patterns be changed?

I tried to find something about the Avoidance-Endurance model and found this article from 2022 about chronic back pain by a bunch of psychologists and rehab people in Austria and the USA: Perceived psychosocial stressors and coping resources in chronic low back pain patients as classified by...

The ELAROS NHS digital system for patient/clinician digital sharing questionnaire data, includes Yorkshire Rehab. Scale and Open-OH app

To be fair the app does say if your voice doesn't return to normal seek referral to ENT, Ear, Nose and Throat and ENT Speech and Language Therapy. I hadn't noticed whether that was included in the references I linked.

Preprint Understanding Neuroinflammation in Post-COVID-19 Syndrome: Biological Mechanisms, Diagnostic Biomarkers, and Therapeutic..., 2025, Martins et al.

Can someone expain to me what the paper's authors mean by neuroinflammation, and why the term is controversial?

The ELAROS NHS digital system for patient/clinician digital sharing questionnaire data, includes Yorkshire Rehab. Scale and Open-OH app

I applied to attend this event and didn't get a response. It's intended for clinicians, so I expect that's why I wasn't invited. The also offer recordings for those who can't attend, so I have emailed them to request recordings of this meeting and any earlier ones. Here's a copy of my email...

The ELAROS NHS digital system for patient/clinician digital sharing questionnaire data, includes Yorkshire Rehab. Scale and Open-OH app

As predicted, I forgot. Sorry. I'll have a look at it now. It's a mix of bits taken from booklets they reference NHS Leeds: Long COVID rehabilitation booklet Information for patients page 39 WHO Support for rehabilitation: self-management after COVID-19-related illness page 16 And a couple...

Replicated blood-based biomarkers for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis not explicable by inactivity, 2024, Beentjes, Ponting et al

I agree it was poor, but I suspect Nick Robinson just read out whatever the ediitors put in front of him. They do a 3 hour news program with 2 presenters and lots of interviews on anything and everything, but mostly politics and current affairs, it's not a science or medicine program. I doubt he...

Replicated blood-based biomarkers for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis not explicable by inactivity, 2024, Beentjes, Ponting et al

I haven't read all this thread or the research yet, but Chris Ponting in the BBC interview explains that they are seeing patterns or trends rather than things that can specifically be pinned down as diagnostic at the individual level. More research needs to be done to see if they can work out...

Reddit - Interesting posts on Reddit, including what some doctors say about ME/CFS

This bit quoted above is surely more revealing about the attitude of the doctor who wrote it than the reality of whoever he has encountered with ME/CFS. Such a judgement view of a whole population of pwME is probably based it on a single pwME, perhaps a sibling who got more attention than they...

Unwilling or unable? Interpreting effort task performance in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2025, Kirvin-Quamme et al

On the question of retraction, there is surely also the option of an addendum or editors or authors note or correction being added to a published paper. That could be done in this case perhaps, with a note simply saying something like 'the authors wish to amend their interpretation of the...

New version of Covid, called NB.1.8.1 or Nimbus, doing the rounds

Having not heard of any of my family having covid for some time, there have been 3 cases in the last few weeks. One caught it in Italy about a month ago, seemed to recover after a week, but a couple of weeks later back in Australia is in hospital with pneumonia despite being vaccinated before...

Health outcomes of patients in the Complex Chronic Diseases Program, 2025, Meagher, Nacul, et al.

It seems from the abstract that there was no meaningful improvement for patients on the program beyond therapist effect.
