Evaluation of science advice during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden, Brusselaers et al, 2022

Again these alternative facts - so harmful - in question. This is outrageous... I sympathize with you, @mango. Awful. Hoping, despite everything, that critical and persistent voices will rise to demand accountability for all these lost lives, some of which could have been avoided. In my...

    Whitney Dafoe Updates

Without pretending to know exactly what he meant, I simply understood the sentence as : the daily courage shown by the pwme, which in the worst moments or states is pure survival, is an act of protest against the disease... a perseverance in hoping that science will one day find a cure for ME...

Kinds of Replication: Examining the Meanings of “Conceptual Replication” and “Direct Replication, 2022, Derksen & Merawski

That's what scares me the most. It is not seeing, studying reality, the human phenomenon as it is that seems to interest them here, it is to construct this reality as they see it (theory takes precedence over reality). And thank you Peter Trewhitt for the precision about convergent evidence.

Kinds of Replication: Examining the Meanings of “Conceptual Replication” and “Direct Replication, 2022, Derksen & Merawski

I could be wrong (I didn't have the courage to read the whole article, particularly long !), but I have the impression that CRG has already highlighted the best of its content. The latter reports what the proponents of the "direct replication" method defend (tends towards scientific rigor), as...

2022 Brian Hughes on the NICE Guideline and what it means for care of people with ME/CFS

I'm just starting to listen to the webinar with prof. Brian Hughes, here's an excerpt that made me smile... : " ...there is a very clear separation here that is a physical illness requiring physical management not psychological management... we might note at this point, that if you are a...

    USA: News from Solve ME

For information, in the previous video (diagram), Dr. Baraniuk's presentation mentions the concept of nociplastic pain (chronic). This type of pain refers to Central Sensitization (CS)... and observe in this same diagram under the heading " treatment ": Retrain the brain with non-drug...

Effect of central sensitization on dizziness-related symptoms of persistent postural-perceptual dizziness, 2022, Hashimoto et al

Wow, it is so easy to diagnose central sensitization with a questionnaire alone ! (irony) Oh Lord, but where is the clear cause and effect demonstration of this Central Sensitization theory ?! And what about PPPD ! (article) " PPPD has psychosomatic aspects, but the mechanism of chronic...

    dry eyes

Since having ME, I too have developed eye dryness (bucal, and mucous membranes). The medications I take may contribute a little, but maybe not only. For 11 years I have been taking the same medications but my dry eyes have gotten worse (I am neither young nor old). To the point that I had a kind...

Normal muscle strength and fatiguability in patients with effort syndromes, 1988, Stokes at al

What makes me sad is to see how much (already in 1992) the voice of the patients is not really taken into account (I am not talking here about the supposed causes) but about the lived, real experience of these patients in connection with physical exertion (anormal worsening of symptoms). The...

Body Reprogramming: Reframing the Fibromyalgia narrative and providing an integrative therapeutic model, 2022, Fitzdonald Davies et al

Personally, I have a lot, a lot of imagination, and so I could invent a theory a day if I wanted. But that would always remain just an unproven theory, maybe attractive because it seemed logical, but still did not reflect reality. And worse than useless, damaging for those who suffer from FM...

'My Doctor Gaslighted Me Into Believing I Was Fine. In Reality, I Had A Rare Autoimmune Disorder'

My current GP tried to do the same thing (only 1 problem/appointment), except that in real life, several problems can happen at the same time, right ? So, a patient denounced the situation to journalists and, faced with the discontent of the population, the College of Physicians of my Province...

ME/CFS SKeptic: A new blog series on the dark history of psychosomatic medicine

I know @Hutan, it is sometimes very sad and dramatic. I have already witnessed this in my work as well as seen testimonies from relatives and professionals in journalistic reports or investigations on TV. We live in a world where many people adhere to parallel realities. Our contemporaries laugh...

    Positional vertigo/spinning nausea

I really sympathize with you, I know, it's really painful. As already mentioned, it could be a " jolt " of labyrinthitis or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). A few years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with endless dizziness and unbearable nausea. Unable to stand without...

ME/CFS SKeptic: A new blog series on the dark history of psychosomatic medicine

Just a side note: Hans Selye, the father of the stress theory (general adaptation syndrome), and taken up by psychosomatics, also seems to have been funded by the tobacco industry : " Selye died on 16 October 1982, in Montreal at the age of 75. Sadly, a scandal emerged after his death: he was...

    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

@TigerLilea, even in Canada, there are Provinces that offer a 4th dose for a particularly vulnerable target clientele: " 4th dose for immunocompromised, immunosuppressed or dialysis patients The immunocompromised, immunosuppressed or dialysis person has a much higher risk of presenting very...

Exercise and chronic fatigue, 2021, Wrightson & Twomey

And in their conclusion, about ME: " However, as we have also shown in the case of ME/CFS, extreme caution should be exercised in recommending exercise to people with chronic fatigue. Without knowing the causes of the symptom, it is possible that a therapy that alleviates fatigue in one group...

The Relationship of Centralized Pain in Fibromyalgia Syndrome with Sleep, Fatigue and Quality of Life , 2022, Unal-Ulutatar et al

From the discussion in the article : " Pain management strategies in FM should be holistic which means that target should not only be to reduce the pain severity, but also to manage the patient’s pain perception. In order to manage centrality of pain it is important to find out which factors...

GERD, acid reflux, heartburn and hiatus hernia

When I officially became ill with ME, I had many distressing symptoms including intense heartburns. These heartburns have become chronic and therefore intolerable. Being already thin, it prevented me from eating and therefore I lost weight. Antacids sold over the counter in pharmacies didn't...

Oral and intravenous hydration in the treatment of orthostatic hypotension and postural tachycardia syndrome, 2022, Howard Snapper et al

For my part, the only thing I can say about this is that following the POTS diagnosis, I did try drinking saline water as recommended... no effect, except to make me go to the bathroom more often.
