    Disability : awareness and representation

I think that in general, Western culture is very focused on performance, capitalism obliges. Which roughly means, you are efficient = you are useful and conversely, less or not efficient = useless. That was never my personal values. Before ME, I worked with various people to help them, and I can...

Meaning of the word 'malaise' and its use in the term Post-exertional malaise (PEM)

(Please, I am posting the following for informational purposes, not intended to be for or against anyone.) Here is, for exemple, the definition of "malaise" according to MedlinePlus, from the National Library of Medicine (NIH): https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/003089.htm Further on...

    When other people are sick

I'm sorry you had to put up with this. It hurts not to be understood and it doesn't inspire compassion for these people either. Personally, I am lucky to have relatives who generally "understand", even if sometimes I have to repeat because they forget a little. If I feel that my limits are not...

Transgenerational violence and immunological deficits, a psychosomatic hypothesis, 2022, Papazian

Despite its "friendly" view, I also found this article nevertheless enlightening on the current situation of psychoanalysis : For info, in my Province in Canada, the great majority of psychologists (the only ones having the right to practice psychotherapy*) are not psychoanalysts. And here...

ME/CFS SKeptic: A new blog series on the dark history of psychosomatic medicine

I am speechless... :jawdrop: Well, it seems that psychoanalysis has something of the secret of a sect, since despite the many decades that have passed (this journal dates from 1950 !), it is still impossible to consult it unless you buy it. I only found the following article by the same author...

an ‘invisible’ illness that benefits from a relationship-based care approach – BJGP Life, 2022

Exactly, under the guise of some good, condescension, prejudice and lack of authenticity show through in some sentences. Maybe I'm too sharp but it's a bit like someone who tries to understand the other without sincere desire... " They want to be able to discuss their beliefs about the...

Functional neurological disorder: new subtypes and shared mechanisms, 2022, Hallett, Dworetzky, Stone et al

One of the authors, the neurologist and prof. Jon Stone (University of Edinbugh), created a website to " learn all about FND ", promoting this uncertain disorder. This is what the proof on which he builds his whole theory looks like...

Symptoms of Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance associated with chemicals (IEI-C) are positively associated with perceptual anomalies, 2022, Speck

Oh Lord, I've been thinking this for a long time... They want their theoretical model to exist so badly that it completely blinds them. By pride or whatever, the result is that they distort reality and therefore constitute a potential danger for patients.

Fatigue - is it the main symptom of ME/CFS and Long Covid? Discussion thread

This is also true in french, "malaise" can also express a general discomfort: " Sensation pénible et vague d'un trouble physiologique " (French dictionary LeRobert). One of the synonyms is "incommodité " (inconvenience) which also means discomfort. That's why I still prefer " intolerance à...

Fatigue - is it the main symptom of ME/CFS and Long Covid? Discussion thread

@Mij , I would say that the term " malaise " is less pejorative indeed than " fatigue " (very overused), but has a very vague meaning. While the expression "exertion intolerance" (intolérance à l'effort) is better in my opinion because it is significantly more specific.

Fatigue - is it the main symptom of ME/CFS and Long Covid? Discussion thread

I don't live in France but I speak french, and I can tell you that the connotation of the word "fatigue" has exactly the same harmful connotation as everything @Trish said. I totally agree with her.

BMJ Opinion: The Illusion of Evidence Based Medicine, 2022, Jureidini and McHenry (and some doctors' opinions)

A precision @DokaGirl: I am therefore lucky because, in my Province, the basic sanitary measures (mask in public places, physical distancing, hand washing, isolation, etc.) are still in place. And our government is following public health guidelines, no 6th wave deniers here.

Plasma metabolomics reveals disrupted response and recovery following maximal exercise in ME/CFS, Arnaud Germain, Maureen R. Hanson et al, 2022

(Sorry if this is irrelevant and I'm not bringing anything new, my memory has holes...) I have the impression that the process leading to PEM sometimes resembles reaching a threshold of effort (which may be variable within a pwme and between pwme) and/or to something that accumulates...

LP-fortellinger - Norwegian website sharing information and experiences about Lightning Process - now available in English

I'm sincerely so sorry to hear that ! :( I had no intention of pretending to know exactly the way forward, it is the aggrieved Norwegians themselves who are best placed to say so. I just read the blog " A Messiah in the Norwegian healthcare system ? " written by Nina E. Steinkopf * ...

LP-fortellinger - Norwegian website sharing information and experiences about Lightning Process - now available in English

Good God, but wouldn't there be a group of lawyers who, by pro bono, would take charge a class action against these LP instructors and the Norwegian Labor and Welfare Administration ? It seems to me that the seriousness of the damage suffered by these many people amply justifies it. The...
