Podcast: CBT for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Dr Lucy Maddox, Trudie Chalder

Couldn't agree more, if the UK charities had done their job over all these decades such audios would be a thing of the past. OK I know they are up against the power of people like TC and the establishment but in my opinion they have been woefully inadequate in their attempts to help and protect...

Podcast: CBT for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Dr Lucy Maddox, Trudie Chalder

Completely agree, predictably appalling. TC said 5;03 "There are some people who seem to be managing it reasonably well at one end of the spectrum and then there are other people at the other end of the spectrum who are very severe who may be in a wheel chair or may even be bed bound" Does...

The ‘cognitive behavioural model’ of chronic fatigue syndrome: Critique of a flawed model, 2019, Geraghty et al

Yes and do they never question how mass hysteria can continue for literally decades for many of us? Or why anyone would choose to be on benefits and to have to live in poverty and go through the repeated hell of benefit reassessment when they could work part time for more with none of the...

    The $100 million challenge

I would ask the likes of Ron Davis and colleagues to brainstorm together to suggest the best ways to spend the money to move the field forward as effectively as possible. Such people would have the best idea of what areas could be the most productive in terms of moving the understanding of ME...

Trial By Error: “Bristol, It Is Time to Withdraw Your Complaints to Berkeley”

Excellent response. I certainly hope Dave will get a positive response but I'm not holding my breath, I just don't have any faith in the integrity of UK academic establishments, well actually UK establishment in general.

Hysteria revisited: medicine, psychiatry and the ME wars

I had a similar experience of being very sensitive to a very small gas leak. When the gas company guy used his meter to test for a leak it tested negative but the guy believed me and said he'd try the old tried and tested method of using strong soapy water solution over the joint in the pipe and...

Those in positions of power require not only intelligence but also morality and empathy. Let's face it, plenty of intelligent people behave appallingly!

Researcher Interactions Question collection thread for S4ME Q&A with Dr Michael VanElzakker

Thanks Andy and thanks to Dr. VanElzakker. 1. How does he choose his cohorts and which criteria does he use, and does he see any differences/similarities in the results between criteria? Could this be used to sub group patients and ultimately treatment strategies? 2. Have you or will you be...

NICE Guideline review: Call for evidence on myalgic encephalomyelitis (or encephalopathy)/chronic fatigue syndrome, deadline 16th Oct 2019

Well surely all BPS research results are opinion based, with patients giving their opinion as to whether they think CBT/GET have helped or not. https://www.thefreedictionary.com/opinion Opinion - A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof...

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

Agreed and it is surely also difficult for them to prove it didn't cause deterioration, especially when patient surveys show such high levels of harm from these treatments ?

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome' 2017, Larun et al. - Recent developments, 2018-19

Yes the 2015 law on consent does indeed apply to all medical personnel: " Doctors, and other healthcare professionals, are now under a clear duty to take reasonable care to ensure that patients are aware of all material risks. This judgment aligns the law with the guidance on consent set out by...

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

Call me cynical, but I strongly suspect you don't need to go to the conference to hear the results, they'll have been a foregone conclusion from the word go.

Crashed. Could hayfever have done this?

Sorry Squeezy I forgot to say, with the MSM, though I find it helps with hayfever, you need to increase the level slowly as you can feel a bit rough and depressed if you increase the dose too quick.

Crashed. Could hayfever have done this?

Yes definitely possible, I'm pulled down every year with it, it can really clobber you on top of ME. For me, I've found using something like Haymax to put up your nostrils really helps or you can use vaseline. I now make up my own mixture from the same ingredients as Haymax and it saves a load...
