Carol Monaghan has applied for a debate in UK House of Commons main chamber

It goes back further to Peter Lilley (Tory) and the DWP working in cahoots with UNUM back in the early 90's. Edited to add the following: When labour were in power there was a TV programme showing UNUM involvement with DWP and I wrote to my MP (Tory) about it, he was interested and invited...

David Tuller: Trial By Error: How to Avoid Ethical Review

Absolutely and funding bodies should be questioning continuing to fund these researchers until this is independently investigated.

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

Quite and and all members whose jobs involve prescribing/promoting the BPS view of ME and MUS. Really the whole things is a fiasco. How can they maintain this notion of two points of view which have to be represented on the committee when the scientific evidence shows the BPS view is...

David Tuller: Trial By Error: Yet Another Letter About the Lightning Process Study

Yes, or perhaps what it might be like to live in a communist or fascist state where "reality" can be defined by the state and where if you don't accept their perspective they can shut you up by claiming you are mentally ill.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Thanks Trish, I'd not spotted that. It looks as if the potential for bias is build into the Cochrane model.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Grief I hadn't realised one the authors is from MS's department, well there's a surprise...... I'm assuming this is acceptable procedure for Cochrane? It seems quite appalling to me.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Yes, the process is explained here, it's the authors who choose an available topic: https://community.cochrane.org/review-production/production-resources/proposing-and-registering-new-cochrane-reviews Proposing and registering new reviews What’s the process for writing a review? All Cochrane...

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Thanks for the explanation. You said that "....Cochrane does not so much choose someone as someone offers and Cochrane approves " does that not leave things very open to manipulation especially in an area of contention? I find that quite shocking actually, surely any supposed gold standard...

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Thanks. Do you know if it is normal practice for Cochrane to choose someone who isn't a medical doctor and who has no or little previous experience in clinical trials to lead such a review? Edit: And surely anyone leading such a review should have a considerable knowledge of statistics?

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

I wasn't thinking it would change their minds of those who hold strong BPS views, but rather that if the GDG are required to start from the WHO/SNOMED classifications that might bring into question the validity of any the research which is based on the behavioural view of ME/CFS and the use of...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

The government accepts both the WHO and SNOMED classifications of ME/CFS. NICE should be accepting the government's position on classification of ME/CFS as a neurological disease, not behavioural and carry out the review of the guidelines with this in mind. 1. NICE is accountable to and is...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

NICE said their guideline is not fit for purpose, yet they are happy to fill their committee with those who are seemingly happy to prescribe CBT/GET and the behavioural model of ME. I've not heard of any of these doctors or their ilk standing up and agreeing with NICE that the guidelines aren't...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

The worry would be what sort of experts? We know from Brian Hughes that many of the issues in PACE are common practice in psych research, we know the MRC clinical trial unit was involved with PACE, look at what they allowed (caused?) to happen, and anyway they would presumably defend the...
