    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

I'm curious on how you decide on when to start social distancing. Do you wait until cases pop up in your communitiy or for the local health department to give out recommendations? Or do you decide independently from that?

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Maybe the WHO is stressing the mortality of 3.4% because they want this number to be printed everywhre and everyone to take it more seriously. They haven't addressed anyone specific but have criticized that not all governments are taking the necessary steps. From what I understand that's the...

If you can't get sanitizers anymore what according to my pharmacist also works are these alcohol pads being used to clean your skin before an injection. They are soaked in 70% isopropyl alcohol and at least in the pharmacies I've been still available. I always need them for b12 injections...

I don't understand it either and I'm scared by the lack of empathy towards the vulnerable in media coverage.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I've heard this being discussed in an interview with an expert today. He compared that sort of thinking ("just let it spread and lets get over it") to measle parties and how reckless that would be.

    Coronavirus: Advice from ME organisations

Ironically, China now has imported some new cases from Italy. It's like whac-a-mole.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Regarding risk factors again: E.g. diabetes and heart disease. I know they often can go undetected for a long time when they don't cause symptoms. But when they are treated/addressed properly, are they still considered a risk factor in pneumonia?

What does having ME mean to you?

For me, there's a before and after. Like when somebody close has died. One day I will have been longer sick than healthy. It's a kafkaesk nightmare and sometimes I still can't believe it. ME doesn't make sense.

The rate seems to be pretty high in Italy though, too. But maybe the number of infected is vastly undetected there.

Behavioural science must be at the heart of the public health response to covid-19 "Human behaviour will determine how quickly covid-19 spreads and the mortality. Therefore behavioural science must be at the heart of the public health response. While responding agencies move quickly to issue...

I'm wondering about that, too for my older relatives. In this study table 1 they are going into more detail with every of the mentioned pre-existing conditions (and every decade of age groups). Hypertension according to that has a case fatality rate of 6%. Which means the likelihood of...

This is a summary of the current data about Covid 19 Report of the WHO-China Joint Mission on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) "People with COVID-19 generally develop signs and symptoms, including mild respiratory symptoms and fever, on an average of 5-6 days after infection (mean...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

My best friend is chronically ill working part time as office help at an ENT's. They haven't been educated on what to do when somebody is presenting with suspicious symptoms or how to protect themselves at all. Our state officials are saying again and again "we are well prepared", the chamber...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I will look ridicoulos in full gear if I ever have to go out like this. But I didn't want to waste money on things that I can't use for other purposes/occasions if I don't need them for this one (-> Swabians in Baden Württemberg are known for their frugality :emoji_blush:) There's another...

You wouldn't want to be in a prison/cell right now though either :emoji_flushed: For eye protection, I got swimming goggles. They complete the outfit of N95 masks and disposable raincoats I panic bought. (Edit typo)

No in Germany, Baden Württemberg. Haha, I bet the mask keeps people away :) I've actually made that experience yrs before, wearing a normal surgeons mask in a train after I visited someone in ICU. I got a good seat with lots of space around me.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Oops, it's in my state now, but 40km away. A young guy that came from Milano. I've been prepping since the Wuhan lockdown as much as my means allowed me to. Good thing is, I live alone and am at least now well enough to take care of myself (except heavy housework). So I can isolate myself if...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

In South Korea it just needed one woman at a mega church to infect hundereds of people. Same on the cruise ship. I don't see how not having mass gatherings and changing behaviour for at least a couple of weeks would hurt anyone.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

So the WHO still doesn't want to call it "pandemic" stressing that every country has to do their own risk assessment. I understand the word can cause panic. But does anybody know what else comes with it? Can there be provided more international funding, can state officials impose more...
